The Arcadia Area Historical Museum houses local artifacts and furniture produced in the area. It was traditionally a center for lumber milling and in 1906 the Arcadia Furniture Factory was built on the site of the old mill. The Arcadia Furniture Company employed most of the town throughout the first half of the 20th century, producing beautiful dressing tables, wardrobes and bedroom furniture, with lumber supplied from the surrounding forests. The museum also tells the story of the shipwrecked Minnehaha, a 200-foot, 4-masted schooner that is still visible on the banks of the Great Lake today.
The main draws to the area, apart from the scenery, are the golf and activities on the lake. Arcadia Bluffs is an award-winning golf course held in high regard by everyone who visits. It is considered an advanced course due to the 'lake effect' and strong winds. Out on the water, you could charter a cruiser to explore Lake Michigan privately or take a fishing tour to seek out salmon and trout. Alternatively, landlubbers could hit the road just outside of town, nominated Michigan's most scenic drive by National Geographic Traveler Magazine.
Michigan is known for its temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters. Between the end of June and September, Arcadia vacation rental prices are at their highest, but if you visit the town in the spring or fall, the weather is arguably more agreeable and the prices considerably lower. In these shoulder seasons, the days enjoy slightly cooler weather making for ideal hiking temperatures and the winds are perfect for water-based activities. It may very well be warm enough in the evenings to eat al fresco while you enjoy views down over the Great Lake.
It would be impossible to talk about Arcadia without mentioning its wide range of freshwater fish. Arcadia Lake, which is separated from the Great Lake by a high sandbar, is home to several types of bass, perch and freshwater drum. Boat rentals are available, but with a fishing dock to cast off from in town, you don't need to go far from your Arcadia vacation rental to catch supper. A short drive from town, Herring Lake has a reputation for being the best place in the wider area to fish for walleye.
The nearest airport is in Manistee, MI (MBL-Manistee County-Blacker), located 16 mi (25.8 km) from the city center.
