  • Loved it!!!

"Our family of four spent the week in this quiet, secluded cabin in the woods. Our kids are 9/12 years old and they told us they really liked not having a TV or electronics for the week. They enjoyed playing games and listening to the radio... didn't even realize we had Wifi. So old school we loved it. One of our kids slept in the pull out couch and the other slept on an air mattress we brought with us. I would say we maxed out space, but we were very comfortable and would bring our kids up again. Sam and Ann met us as we pulled in and were very helpful with answering questions about the cabin, property and surrounding area. They told us we could pet the horses as much as we liked and our kids really enjoyed going to see the horses up the driveway from the cabin multiple times a day. The cabin has everything you would need, location is ideal for day trips to the beach, Mackinac Island, U.P., small town experiences, Harbor Springs and Petoskey. Sam and Ann live on property but we the cabin is set back far enough that you won't see them unless you are pulling up the driveway and they are out working. We grilled out and enjoyed the deck to relax in the morning and evenings.Trails all around we walked our dog and rode bikes. We enjoyed this cabin so much, we will be back, maybe even without the kids!!"

  • A Perfect Cottage in an Idylic Lake Harbor Town

"Having rented a number of HBO properties in the United States and in England and Wales, where we have family, our expectations run high when we seek a nice place to stay. Barbara's cottage fulfilled our every desire, excellent location, just a mile from an amazing 26-mile paved bike trail, mere blocks down a hill to the harbor/beach, and the same distance from the charming shops of Harbor Springs. The cottage had more than enough room for my husband and I, in fact we could have had another couple stay in the house too because the lower level has a huge bedroom, (king bed and another bed) a full bath and large room for watching TV. We primarily used the upstairs, the living room with its comfy chairs, and pleasant kitchen fully stocked with everything you need, even staples you're invited to use. How wonderful not to have to stock up on things like olive oil, which you never need a lot of, and usually don't use and leave behind, or cart home. There also were other essentials for cooking, too many to name. I'm picky about beds and Barbara assured me that the mattresses in the cottage were comfy. She was completely correct--the master bedroom, which is so lovely and opens up onto a patio in the backyard, seems to have a foam-type of mattress, which was wonderful. The double twins in the other upstairs bedroom were more conventional mattresses but equally as nice. The bathrooms are all well lit and have plenty of storage and towels galore. This marvelous cottage was immaculate, so well maintained and clean. The front porch is another plus, picture pretty with plenty of space to relax in comfort. I also liked the plants around the house, flowers and hostas, which made the property feel much like home. Barbara's cottage is sheer perfection, a perfect spot to relax in a community we plan on returning to again and again. Try as I might, I can't come up with one thing that we would have wanted improved in the cottage. It truly was a home away from home for us, and one offered at a very reasonable price. Finally, Barbara gets high marks for communication. She promptly replied to my e-mails and was made herself available if any problems should arise. We only had one problem. We wished we'd stayed longer!"

  • Amazing beach!!!

"The owner was super attentive and answered multiple questions on moments notice. Have never dealt with such attentive and helpful owners. We had an enjoyable, relaxing vacation. The trail down to the beach was easy and we enjoyed it. The beach was amazing!!! Absolutely beautiful and like none other we have ever stayed at. We went to Petoskey a couple of times and enjoyed the shops and a couple movies. Spent another day at Mackinac and an afternoon in Harbor Springs. All are easy trips of 20-45 min. The kitchen is super small, which I expected. But the biggest disappointment was the kitchen not being very well stocked. This made cooking very challenging. I was glad I brought my own dish cloths as well and we bought a pot just so we could make mac & cheese. . . which we left at the cabin for others. The other thing I would mention is the décor is very animal/hunting like. I respect the owners taste and this is probably very appealing for many, but our 8 year old daughter had a nightmare her first night in the loft, of animals attacking her. (She never has nightmares normally). The bear rug with growling teeth in the loft had to be rolled up and put away to prevent troubling her and she still couldn't sleep up there the rest of the week. The giant moose head next to the loft probably wasn't helpful either. This is just something I will be sure to ask about in the future! The shower needs some work as well, as it was useless to have a temp control/knob, as it does it's own thing, often giving you a not-so-hot shower. We had a great, relaxing week and will treasure the beautiful memories forever."

  • Ideal Location to Unwind and Relax

"Terrific "Blue Fish cottage" has all the right furnishings for a very wonderful and relaxing stay. Great beach with lots of activities including swimming, body surfing with the waves, to finding infamous Petoskey stones and long walks enjoying sights and sounds. Lots of bald and golden eagle sightings during the day and remarkable golf courses within a reasonable distance. The moon's reflection off Lake Michigan along with the vast stars resulted in amazing night photography. Comfortable beds, large living area and small but fantastic kitchen with fully stocked wares. Local general store has delicious fresh-baked pies, breads and cool merchandise. Appreciate the opportunity the owners provided. Definitively returning next summer!"
