  • BEAUTIFUL GETAWAY IN GORGEOUS NORTHERN MI

"As a resident of Chicago, I was looking for a scenic get away for my husband's 30th birthday. Booking this "cottage" (it's a big house!) was more than perfect as family joined us from all over the state. The back outdoor terrace was our favorite place to hang out, drink wine, grill dinner and take in the outstanding views! We even saw the northern lights one night while sitting by the fire as we listened to the waves lap upon the shoreline - SWOON! This rental has so much to offer! TWO full kitchens, and two living rooms (both with the view of the bay). We had 4 couples and everyone had their own bedroom and own bathroom. Tom, the owner, has everything from linens and towels to kitchen utensils and multiple dining sets. This house is fully equipped with large windows and multiple balconies facing the bay, so at anytime you can take in the most amazing view - whether it be while sipping morning coffee or enjoying a glass of your favorite red at sunset! If you want to relax and enjoy good quality time with friends and family - do yourself a favor and BOOK THIS RENTAL! I will be back to make more lasting memories with the ones I love! Thank you, Tom! It was a pleasure meeting you and will certainly see you again!"

  • Nice place

"We enjoyed our week, cottage is newly updated and comfortable. The deck is huge and shaded from trees so we spent a lot of time out there. The only drawback was that we could not tie up to the dock and it became difficult to manage our mooring boats when the storms rolled in. We did notice that no boats were secured to docks around there, they were all on dry docks so typical for this part of the lake."

  • Great lake home

"Our family of 12 spent last week at this great lake home on Elk Lake. Overall the experience was good. The views of Elk Lake are spectacular. The kitchen layout was superb with lots of supplies including dishes, pots and pans, flatware, spices, etc . The two upstairs bedrooms were great with both having direct access to full bathrooms. The basement has two bedrooms with one full bath. Not sure if the air conditioning unit was working correctly because in order to cool the upstairs adequately, it left the basement freezing cold. We really couldn't hang out down there because of this. Also, the downstairs bathroom had a leak coming from somewhere upstairs. We contacted the manager and thought somebody was supposed to come out, but nobody came. The property could use more than one garbage container. Elk Lake is a large, beautiful, quiet lake. We brought our boat up and enjoyed boat rides on Elk and also made the trek to Torch Lake which was even more beautiful but very busy. Unfortunately a few of us contracted swimmers itch from Elk Lake, so be prepared for that if you are planning on swimming. We recommend going to the Lake Michigan beach in Elk Rapids which is only 10 minutes away. We ate at Pearls restaurant which is very good. Try to call ahead. The house is on a pretty busy road, so it made us nervous to let the kids ride their bikes. We had to escort them across the road and then they were able to bike in a neighborhood. Overall we enjoyed our stay. There are always slight negatives to every place; there's no place like home, right? The area of Elk Rapids is one of the best in Michigan."

  • Excellent Property!

"We rented this home as a Christmas gift for our adult children. We wanted to stay together for a ski weekend. All total, there were 11 of us. There was plenty of room for all of us without anyone feeling crowded. The basement space was cozy and allowed for some of the group to break off when they needed their space. The loft area was very cool, also. The layout of the first floor was very open and provided an excellent place to play games or just have conversations. The property was absolutely beautiful! I found it to be clean and it had all of the amenities that we needed to make for a relaxing stay. We skied at Boyne Mountain, which was about 40 minutes away. There were very few restaurant options this time of year, but we ordered pizza from a local place the first night and it was really good - the second night we ate at the Pelican's Roost restaurant right at the end of the driveway - food was a bit better than bar food. Back to the property - the views were spectacular, it sits atop a hill on the golf course and is very secluded. This was the first time I had used VBRO and I had a few problems, but the owners were timely and polite in their responses. Having only two full baths was a bit of a challenge, but it didn't detract from the overall stay. The only recommendation I would have is to bring your own towels/washcloths- there was only one towel left on each of the beds and the towels were fairly small. Not a big deal, but something to know (the owner solicited feedback and I shared this, they said they would correct it for future stays)."
