  • Cabin au Bord du Lac

"This is a very comfortable, cozy cabin with a fabulous view of Portage Lake. Morning sunrises are unbelievably beautiful. Houghton - Chassel trail runs directly behind the cabin and provides easy access to either location. Centrally located in Keweenaw Country, you can be in Copper Harbor in less than an hour or in Baraga or L'Anse in about 30 minutes. This is a great place if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing cabin. Sharon is a great hostess. Only shortcoming is lack of a TV, which was only an issue because of our visit coinciding with the opening weekend of NFL football. Suitable for no more than three people due to its small size."

  • Wonderfully equipped cozy cabin

"This was our first HomeAway experience and it was a good one. The kitchen was very well equipped for us to prepare a pretty full Thanksgiving meal - and all of the little stuff we forgot, was there. Plenty of place settings and a nice big table to sit around. The cabin itself is beautiful, we loved the cozy gas log fireplace, and with the fan running it does a nice job of heating the place. There were plenty of beds for all of us to sleep in, although my wife and I found the mattress in the master bedroom too soft for us (we prefer firmer mattresses than most) so we gave that room to our oldest daughter and we slept on full size bed on the loft. Younger kids slept in the room with two twin beds and were happy - and grandma got the other downstairs bedroom all to herself. Tons of pillows, blankets and towels. There is a nice new (and BIG!) washing machine should you need it. Note: I was with some family members who are particular (and sensitive) about their drinking water, and we ended up buying a few jugs of purified water to drink. There is a filtered water tap on the refrigerator - which was good enough for me - but just a heads-up. This is of no-fault to the property itself, just something others may want to plan ahead for. We enjoyed watching an movie the old fashioned way (VHS Tape!) on the large TV in the master bedroom. There are quite a few VHS movies there in the closet next to the upstairs tv to choose from. There is a DVD player and a surround sound audio setup in the main living area as well. The WiFi there is easy to connect to, and we had a lot of kids there with their faces stuffed in phones and tablets all weekend with zero complaints about the internet speed! We arrived when it was dark and with all the fresh snow we drove by the property's driveway twice. It was right where it was supposed to be, but a few inches of snow - so just go slow as you approach. It's about 15? minutes into Houghton. Bottom line - would we rent/stay there again? Absolutely."

  • Little slice of paradise!!!

"There is not much I can add to these reviews that hasn't already been said! This is a fantastic place!!! Just book it! The house really does have everything! I wasn't sure what to expect for kitchen items so I came prepared with Tupperware containers, ziploc bags and spices I wanted to use for specific recipes. Bottled water isn't a must, but there is an iron taste to the water for the first day or two, so if you don't think you will be able to get past that go ahead and bring it. Oh, and bring chip clips!! We were thrilled to be able to bring our 12 year old German Shorthaired Pointer along on our trip. It was his first time on a beach and had a great time exploring! Being the end of October he, and we, definitely were not doing any swimming! But this would be absolutely amazing in the summer!!! Despite the typical late Fall weather (constant cloud cover and intermittent periods of misting) we found plenty to do. The drive along the western side of the peninsula is spectacular! Tons of roadside parks, places to hike, and waterfalls! Mountain bike enthusiasts will love Copper Harbor, and Brockway Mountain Drive from Copper Harbor to the West is jaw dropping! Absolutely worth a drive to Copper Harbor for anyone. Definitely come prepared to have typical town amenities out of your close reach. And if you come in the "off-season" be prepared for many restaurants to be closed. We are used to this so we did plenty of research prior to the trip on what would be open and were just overall flexible with what we were "planning to do" (not much!). Calumet is pretty bustling and not too far from the house and has grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Todd was easily reachable and quick to respond to all of our questions. Thank you for sharing your property with us!"
