  • Great cottage in lovely area of Harbor Country, away from the crowds

"I recently spent the Labor Day weekend at this property and it was truly a wonderful vacation. The cottage is fully equipped with whatever you might need. Nicely appointed and very comfortable with a screened in porch overlooking a large & lush backyard. This soon became my spot for morning coffee and relaxing anytime... watching the birds and gazing at the greenery. Would be lovely in the Autumn I am sure. Thoughtfully maintained and very clean, the cottage has both Central a/c and great (quiet) ceiling fans to keep you cool, a full washer/dryer in the unit, and a nice tv/dvd setup. You feel secluded and private, yet with only a short drive to SAWYER MARKET (fabulous for basics and gourmet stuffs, plus produce from local areas and a gift shop !) and close to all the area has to offer in New Buffalo/Union Pier/Three Oaks and other towns. Walking distance to Cherry Beach and owner provides a pass for your use. Furniture and beds are comfy and linens are provided. You could pay (much) more for new construction, marble countertops, 800 thread-count sheets, etc. but this is a perfect place to get away from it all, be cozy and comfortable, and still have change left over to take yourselves for a nice dinner or the kids up to St. Joseph for a road trip along the Lake. I recommend it as a tonic to the soul and a place to make some wonderful memories, no matter what the Season is. Owner was also extremely prompt and easy to deal with, checking in to see if I needed anything or had questions. PLUS ***Great wi-fi !! Thanks Russ for sharing your getaway…:)"

  • A Great Cousins Reunion -- Then a Frustration

"As vacation rental owners ourselves, we are very aware of the incredible effort it takes to keep a home well furnished, clean and in good repair. This home hits all the marks in many ways: It is roomy and nicely furnished. We all remarked on the very nice artwork throughout the house. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is large and very well appointed -- there were even wineglasses and good knives! The beautiful deck has lots of comfortable dining and relaxing choices. We had deer in the back yard every morning while we enjoyed our coffee. It is very, very clean and, aside from a few small maintenance issues which were quickly addressed, in good repair. It's a short walk to the beach, and close to lots of good places to eat, wineries, and other attractions. The owner, Kathleen, was friendly and attentive in the rental process and while we were there. As an owner, I am probably pickier than some -- but here are a few "cons": When we arrived there was someone else's wilted leftover salad, uncovered in the serving bowl, still in the refrigerator. Not awful, but still a little gross -- and we wondered if the refrigerator had been wiped out before our arrival. The first two nights we were there, there were no lightbulbs in the light fixtures on the front of the house. It was a real safety issue. That being said, when we expressed our concern to Kathleen she had it fixed the same day. Several of the lamps and light fixtures were also missing bulbs. We could not get the gas fireplace to work when we first arrived. Kathleen came quickly the next morning and had a repairman there within minutes. There are no towel bars in 2 of the bathrooms. One of the sofas shown in the photos here is no longer in the living room. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice for our group of 7 to have had a few more places to "sit soft." My biggest issue came after our rental. Kathleen was extremely slow in returning our deposit. She even suggested that we might be liable for damages we did not create -- issues that were existing when we arrived. As vrbo owners we are VERY conscientious renters, so it was a bit offensive to be unjustly accused. We were planning a return visit with other friends to explore wineries, but are now not as likely to return. My advice? Stay here, enjoy the beautiful home, but document the condition upon arrival and departure. And be prepared to wait for your refund."

  • What a lovely home! Spacious, with high-end finishes, clean, bright and airy. I'll stay again!

"This is a really beautiful, clean home with tons of natural light, a great floor plan and lovely decor. It is easy to find, in a very central location- within a few minutes of the beach by foot and a couple of miles to downtown New Buffalo by car. The only difficulty we had was deciding where to park, as there is no driveway or garage to orient you to the front of the house. Once we figured out you could park right across the street, it was easy. The home has every convenience, and is comfortable and well-kept. I would definitely stay here again. This time I stayed with my sister and a very longtime friend. Next time I'll bring my husband, adult children and their spouses. The owner was very responsive to my questions about restaurants and nearby attractions. I highly recommend this home!"

  • Best place to be in Sawyer for fall colors

"We could not have asked for a better place to enjoy the fall colors in Michigan. The proximity to Lake Michigan, the Warren Dunes State Park, and the wineries and breweries could not be beat. We were able to enjoy a week of relaxing in the crisp fall weather and colors, cozy fires in a perfect rock fireplace, a few puzzles and great time with friends. We visited a few wineries in the area (Dablon for great atmosphere and live music, Lemon Creek was our favorite wine) and a few breweries (Greenbush and Cultivate were at the top of the list, but, we really only hit a few of the many). Getaway is a few minutes away and a must for any Cubs fan. Timothy's and Mesa Luna are very nice evening dining options that were open in the off season. There is really too much within easy drive or walk to list. We also found being north of New Buffalo was a plus as things were a little calmer and being close to Bridgman and St. Joseph was perfect. We are hoping that we can get back next year and enjoy time like we did this year. This may be one of our favorite VRBO's we have stayed in. Kitchen was well stocked and a great option to dining out. The master shower is small, but, not a major issue and we did have an issue with the wifi. The owner was quick to respond to our questions. If you have dogs and/or children this would be a perfect place to stay. We did not use the 'bunkhouse', but, it looked awesome for a group of children or young adults to stay in. There is an outdoor shower that had been winterized so we did not get to use it."
