  • Perfect spot, wonderful month!!!

"I simply cannot overstate how great it was to stay here for the last month! Not only is it completely idyllic, but the owners are wonderfully communicative, generous, and easy to deal with. The whole experience has been amazing, and I hope to return next summer! Thank you for my much needed escape!"

  • Great rental near Marquette!

"I had a family member getting married in Marquette, and most of our family is from downstate in the Lansing/Flint area. We were looking into hotels and were shocked by some of the prices. We also wanted to spend time together as a family while in Marquette. I found Cliff's Ridge and we booked it. It was my wife and I, and two of my cousins and their husbands. We had six people and all slept quite comfortably. There were three queen bedrooms, and had another room with twin size bunk beds. There were also a couple of futons that could have been used. Since I found the place, my family gave us the master bedroom which had its own full bathroom, private deck outdoors, sky lights, and a living space in our room. It was very nice. The owners were great with directions on how to find the place, and were great at communication throughout the process. After arrival I had phone numbers for both the owner and caretakers in case of emergencies and received emails from both making sure we had all we needed. The weekend we were in Marquette was the first rainy weekend of this long hot summer I think, so some of our outdoor plans had to be cancelled. We, as well as many of my other family members had booked the Pictured Rocks boat tour but it was cancelled due to weather. While they were checking in with me to make sure we were taken care of, the owner also made suggestions on other activities we could do in the area, since our plans had changed. They were great and very helpful! The house has a reverse setup, with the 4 bedrooms on the first floor near the entrance. Their is a stairwell leading up to a spacious gathering area and kitchen upstairs where we spent most of our time. We had access to a well stocked full kitchen and refrigerator with all of the appliances we needed. There is a large table that seats 8 and another smaller table that can seat 3 or 4. The night before the wedding, we had some of our other cousins over for dinner (I grilled bacon burgers on the provided gas grill, which was very nice). We had about 11 people in the upstairs area comfortably while we had dinner, played cards, and had a good time. There is also a large flat screen tv with a good cable package which included FSD to watch the Tigers. The very nice couch features footrests, and there is a recliner also. All of this about 10 mins from Marquette. Far enough away to not be downtown but close enough to be near everything. We couldn't have been happier!! 5 stars!"

  • Beautiful Views/Charming House

"My husband and I stayed here with our 2 dogs for a week to celebrate our anniversary and we had a wonderful time. The views are spectacular and the house is adorable (although my 6 ft 3 in husband bumped his head at least once a day!). We loved having coffee in the morning in the screen porch, playing games at night in the studio listening to Lake Superior and relaxing next to a fire watching the stars. Our dogs loved playing frisbee in the yard and going to the nearby beach for a swim. It was a great vacation for all of us!"

  • Fantastic - Large - Swimming Area - Boat Dock - Has It All

"We chose the Stone House due to the positive reviews and the large size of the house. It really is huge. It has 7 queen beds and 7 twin beds in logical combinations spread among the 8 bedrooms. One of the bedrooms is the "Crow's Nest" which is large enough for 4-5 people to sleep comfortably. All of the bedrooms are fairly good sized. It also has 3-1/2 baths, full sized kitchen with dishwasher, dining room to seat 12, screened porch facing the water, and much more. It's a 100 year old house so there are some sticky doors, some creaks in the floor, and some windows that don't always cooperate - but our first impression when we got there was "WOW!" Better than we had expected. The setting is serene - right on Scammon Cove which is larger than most inland lakes - and opens up onto Lake Huron. There is a huge boat dock big enough for ANY sized boat. We docked a 24' Sea Ray. Water at the dock is about 3' deep. The firepit was a favorite hangout at night. The owner provides tons of firewood but you can find plenty of driftwood near the water. At night you can easily see the Milky Way and more stars than you can normally see near any city. On one night we were able to see Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, 5 shooting stars, the International Space Station and several orbiting satellites - it's a sky that you just don't see very often. We did see some bear tracks near the firepit a couple of mornings - but never spotted any bear. There are lots of deer and other small wildlife. In the evening you can hear the mournful cry of the Loon, a duck-like diving bird that has a very interesting call. The lone moose of the island hasn't been seen in a couple of years. On the north side of the island are some fossil ledges. We spent a day hanging out there. The drive to the ledges is primarily for 4x4's but we got our minivan and Camry almost all the way there - only had to walk about 1/2 mile. You can rent ATV's on the island if you want to go that route. The IGA supermarket is very good. We found almost everything we wanted/needed. It's the only supermarket on the island and they take that responsibility seriously. They even bake their own bread and muffins. Prices are higher than average due to the remoteness of the island. There is a very good Do-It Best hardware store on the island. As a former builder I can attest to the quality/quantity of their selection. We highly recommend the Stone House!"
