  • Fabulous!

"Almost 100 year old charming place, warm and welcoming, with everything you need. Beautifully decorated. Our family of 5 made 4 meals there and enjoyed the snow and the short walk to the Lake Superior shore! Philip was very available and helpful. Highly recommend!"

  • Perfect family holiday

"We really enjoyed our stay at the house. We snow shoed on the well marked trail in the back woods every day and made excellent use of the sauna (I am actually going through sauna withdrawal). The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The kitchen is a dream to cook in. We ate meals around the table staring out at the lovely view of the woods. We read books and played games every night by the fire. It was a perfect family holiday. We ventured out for nordic skiing, dog sledding, groceries and more books in Houghton but we were mostly happy to settle in and enjoy everything this place had to offer. I really hope to come back some day."

  • Great cabin, quiet in nature surrounded by trees and birds

"We had a great time in this cabin. We loved the porch around three sides of the house where you could always find the sun or shade at any time of the day. Enjoyed the quiet and the singing of the birds while reading and having my coffee. Supermarkets are 10 min away. The towns Houghton and Hancock give some fun things to do (15 - 20 min. drive), have some good local restaurants and coffee shops and are beautifully located along the big canal. A must stop is K.C. Bonkers Toys and Coffee in Hancock. This place is a blast with the best coffee in town and fun magical soda creations that children will get a kick out of, like dragon blood with Unicorn milk! Even my 14 year old liked it, so it is not too childish. Plus you can play some great family games while drinking your coffee. We had a great brunch at Suomi restaurant with a Finnish pancake, kind of custard thick with strawberry jam and cardamom toast, yum. It is not expensive. I highly recommend to go see the sunset at McClain State Park, a scenic drive from Hancock going East. We also toured the peninsula one day, Calumet is a neat town to visit, go to Connie's Kitchen to try a local Pasty. Then we took the scenic Brockway Mountain Drive, which was not scenic at all, until you get to the top with a beautiful view of the lake and surroundings. Driving down to Copper Harbor you have some more small scenic parking spots. Copper Harbor is very small, we were frankly not impressed but also tired of touring the whole day. It does seem to be a great place for some biking and hiking and possibly kayaking. The drive along the lake shore on the North -East was also very beautiful. There was plenty more to explore, but we did not have enough time, plus we also enjoyed staying at the cabin and breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the calm. They also have a sauna if you like that. The master bedroom is in the basement, it has a concrete floor with many rugs on it. The kids slept in a roomy loft with two queen beds on the bottom of the bunk beds which was a great place for them. I am sure you will have a good time here."

  • Little slice of paradise!!!

"There is not much I can add to these reviews that hasn't already been said! This is a fantastic place!!! Just book it! The house really does have everything! I wasn't sure what to expect for kitchen items so I came prepared with Tupperware containers, ziploc bags and spices I wanted to use for specific recipes. Bottled water isn't a must, but there is an iron taste to the water for the first day or two, so if you don't think you will be able to get past that go ahead and bring it. Oh, and bring chip clips!! We were thrilled to be able to bring our 12 year old German Shorthaired Pointer along on our trip. It was his first time on a beach and had a great time exploring! Being the end of October he, and we, definitely were not doing any swimming! But this would be absolutely amazing in the summer!!! Despite the typical late Fall weather (constant cloud cover and intermittent periods of misting) we found plenty to do. The drive along the western side of the peninsula is spectacular! Tons of roadside parks, places to hike, and waterfalls! Mountain bike enthusiasts will love Copper Harbor, and Brockway Mountain Drive from Copper Harbor to the West is jaw dropping! Absolutely worth a drive to Copper Harbor for anyone. Definitely come prepared to have typical town amenities out of your close reach. And if you come in the "off-season" be prepared for many restaurants to be closed. We are used to this so we did plenty of research prior to the trip on what would be open and were just overall flexible with what we were "planning to do" (not much!). Calumet is pretty bustling and not too far from the house and has grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Todd was easily reachable and quick to respond to all of our questions. Thank you for sharing your property with us!"
