  • Great space for larger family get togethers

"Sleeps 6 gracefully with three good sized bedrooms. The big bonus is that there is a family room but also a screened in porch area all with great views and amble seating. Plenty of deck all good for children. Such a good view even if it is a cloudy day the view is still great. Of note, it is located along some of the best beach on the island."

  • Great cabin, quiet in nature surrounded by trees and birds

"We had a great time in this cabin. We loved the porch around three sides of the house where you could always find the sun or shade at any time of the day. Enjoyed the quiet and the singing of the birds while reading and having my coffee. Supermarkets are 10 min away. The towns Houghton and Hancock give some fun things to do (15 - 20 min. drive), have some good local restaurants and coffee shops and are beautifully located along the big canal. A must stop is K.C. Bonkers Toys and Coffee in Hancock. This place is a blast with the best coffee in town and fun magical soda creations that children will get a kick out of, like dragon blood with Unicorn milk! Even my 14 year old liked it, so it is not too childish. Plus you can play some great family games while drinking your coffee. We had a great brunch at Suomi restaurant with a Finnish pancake, kind of custard thick with strawberry jam and cardamom toast, yum. It is not expensive. I highly recommend to go see the sunset at McClain State Park, a scenic drive from Hancock going East. We also toured the peninsula one day, Calumet is a neat town to visit, go to Connie's Kitchen to try a local Pasty. Then we took the scenic Brockway Mountain Drive, which was not scenic at all, until you get to the top with a beautiful view of the lake and surroundings. Driving down to Copper Harbor you have some more small scenic parking spots. Copper Harbor is very small, we were frankly not impressed but also tired of touring the whole day. It does seem to be a great place for some biking and hiking and possibly kayaking. The drive along the lake shore on the North -East was also very beautiful. There was plenty more to explore, but we did not have enough time, plus we also enjoyed staying at the cabin and breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the calm. They also have a sauna if you like that. The master bedroom is in the basement, it has a concrete floor with many rugs on it. The kids slept in a roomy loft with two queen beds on the bottom of the bunk beds which was a great place for them. I am sure you will have a good time here."

  • David A. and family

"We were there from June 25 thru July 2nd. We are from just outside Dallas where the temp. is regularly approaching 100 degrees. There were six of us including my 14 month old granddaughter. At first we were a little disappointed because there was no cable or satellite for the television and we virtually had no signal for our phones or laptops. But after a few days we realized this place was perfect, our family actually talked and did things as a family. We went to Iron River , Mich. for the absolutely best Pizza we have ever had and we went to Phelps, Wis. for broasted chicken in a little bar next to a gas station. The people were fantastic and the owner of the Jewel was very helpful in every way. The home was super, we would however recommend that you take strong horse fly spray if you head out on a boat. We rented a pontoon boat for the week and really enjoyed the lake. We even saw two bald eagles that make their home across from the Jewel. If you fly into Green Bay be sure you put Phelps Wisc. in the navigator. All in all it was a very peaceful and relaxing week. Can you imagine sleeping with the windows open with 40-50 degrees at night and 60's & 70's during the days. Loved it and would highly recommend Jewel of the North."

  • Fantastic!

"Wonderful home, highly recommend staying here! It is a well kept home not far from Hancock. Great waterfront access and shallow waters allow kids to easily swim."
