  • Great rental near Marquette!

"I had a family member getting married in Marquette, and most of our family is from downstate in the Lansing/Flint area. We were looking into hotels and were shocked by some of the prices. We also wanted to spend time together as a family while in Marquette. I found Cliff's Ridge and we booked it. It was my wife and I, and two of my cousins and their husbands. We had six people and all slept quite comfortably. There were three queen bedrooms, and had another room with twin size bunk beds. There were also a couple of futons that could have been used. Since I found the place, my family gave us the master bedroom which had its own full bathroom, private deck outdoors, sky lights, and a living space in our room. It was very nice. The owners were great with directions on how to find the place, and were great at communication throughout the process. After arrival I had phone numbers for both the owner and caretakers in case of emergencies and received emails from both making sure we had all we needed. The weekend we were in Marquette was the first rainy weekend of this long hot summer I think, so some of our outdoor plans had to be cancelled. We, as well as many of my other family members had booked the Pictured Rocks boat tour but it was cancelled due to weather. While they were checking in with me to make sure we were taken care of, the owner also made suggestions on other activities we could do in the area, since our plans had changed. They were great and very helpful! The house has a reverse setup, with the 4 bedrooms on the first floor near the entrance. Their is a stairwell leading up to a spacious gathering area and kitchen upstairs where we spent most of our time. We had access to a well stocked full kitchen and refrigerator with all of the appliances we needed. There is a large table that seats 8 and another smaller table that can seat 3 or 4. The night before the wedding, we had some of our other cousins over for dinner (I grilled bacon burgers on the provided gas grill, which was very nice). We had about 11 people in the upstairs area comfortably while we had dinner, played cards, and had a good time. There is also a large flat screen tv with a good cable package which included FSD to watch the Tigers. The very nice couch features footrests, and there is a recliner also. All of this about 10 mins from Marquette. Far enough away to not be downtown but close enough to be near everything. We couldn't have been happier!! 5 stars!"

  • 10 Stars!

"Wonderful, amazing location! You can see the lake from nearly every room. Weber charcoal grill, well-outfitted kitchen. We cooked nearly every night, so the kitchen, while small, was functional. The only thing I'm not sorry to see the end of is the tiny bathroom. But the views! I whimpered every time I looked out of the window. Really - ask my husband. Fires on the beach, which was just down the stairs, and, while the beach was public, we saw very few people. Close to Marquette, and we got AT&T cell reception, which we never got staying in Au Train. While I'm not sure it would work well for more than a couple, we'd definitely stay again. Thanks so much!"

  • Great Vacation house

"We just got back from this rental. "LOVED it" House was very clean and had everything we needed. There were also a few surprises not listed, like the big tub for one. This was a simple and uncluttered home. Lots of storage so we could unpack. We enjoyed the puzzles on our rainy days and evenings (Thank you) The beds were not bad, but they could use newer sheets, they were old and the elastic was all stretched out and would not stay on the bed. But most important they were clean. We brought our kayaks and spent a lot of time paddling around the lake. We did find a nice sand bar across the lake were we spent a lot of time swimming. And after spending the day sight seeing it was so nice to come back to the house and relax. The owners were great to work with. There were a lot of information of things to do and see in the area. My kids don't agree, but I loved that their was no wifi, LOL Would defiantly come back."

  • Clean Accommodations

"The house was very clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything you would need. We have suggested to the owners to take some updated pictures as the furniture online is not currently in the house. There is only one couch, not 2 couches and a love seat as pictured. This was a little disappointing to us as we had planned on using them for the kid's to sleep on. This is a simple thing to fix by just updating the pictures on VRBO. Other then this small issue, the house interior is exactly as pictured. Very simple with older furnishings but clean, which is the most important thing to us! The house was pretty much just like we expected. We were sad that there was no fire pit on the beach. We are not sure if someone took the rocks that had been used but there really wasn't a place to put chairs to sit around it anyhow. The beach is fairly small in that area. We suggest putting a fire pit at the house. even a raised small fire pit would be fine. When you think of heading up north, you think of bonfires and s,mores :) The yard is a great size. No problem parking cars or trucks and there was plenty of room for the kids to run around. Even though there were these couple issues, we were happy with the house overall. If we would have known about the furniture, we would have brought the kids an air mattress or something. The fire pit was the biggest disappointment as we had brought wood and s'more fixings and had some pretty sad kids. Neither one of these issues would deter us from renting again or recommending this to other people."
