  • a wonderfully rustic cottage

"This rustic cottage has everything you could want - character, comfort and location. The decor is beautifully understated with antiques and quirky decorative elements but is not overly 'themed'. For cooking, it is perfectly fitted out with every piece of kitchen equipment which you could need. For those who love an open fire, the fire is the centre piece of the living room. For those who need a good night's sleep, the beds are comfortable and warm. The location is great, with views from the picture window of Lake Michigan, framed by beautiful pine trees. We stayed for a snowy winter break and had the most relaxing and rejuvenating stay. Highly recommended!"

  • Nice cottage - in the heart of activity

"This house backs to the Tennis court. The community house and pool are 100 feet from the property line. Shuffleboard is across the street from the pool parking. (all very walkable). Younger kids must have adult at the pool (think it was 12 yo or under). In the house with windows closed and A/C going, we never heard any of the activity outside. If you want true peace and quite, look for Arnouts other listing that is in the back of the sub. But, we have 2 kids so walking to the pool a few days during the stay was perfect. Beach at Silver Lake is mainly for playing. It's stairs to the water so not "kid desired" water entry. BUT, Lake Michigan at the lighthouse is a short drive. And that is what the kids wanted...the "BIG Water". This was my first of two stays at Arnouts managed properties. As with my 2nd stay...the house is very nice. The owners have it decorated to feel quite 'home like' without having so much on tables to cause you concern about accidents (I didn't move a thing). Pictures are spot on. No Wi-fi at the house. Depending on your device, you can pickup the wi-fi from the community center (I had mixed results). Has washer / dryer Sheets are on the bed Bath towels are there Soap, toiletries, dish soap, trash bag, all there... bring your own towels for the beach and pool. 2 BR's with 1 bed in each. "kids BR" has a full and bunk beds (1 up/down) HDTV in Master BR and Guest BR. Standard Definition (36"? CRT) in Living room. The Arnouts are a pleasure to deal with. This was our first rental with them (I returned in Aug with kids for a few days). We had zero issues with anything on either visit, but if we did, I bet they'd be "Johnny on the spot." TIP: visit the dunes during the week. Not crowded at all (July 4 week could be the exception)."

  • Great Place on the Lake

"The most startling (in a good way) thing when we first arrived was to see how awesome the sunset looked over the lake. It's hard to tell on the map, but this really is right on Lake Michigan, just at the top of a hill. The place is big -- we had 11 people and everyone slept comfortably (though we maxed it out). This would be a great rental for two or three close families to share on a vacation, as an example. Most of all, the owners were great to deal with. They had everything setup for us to easily get in and out. We kept things quiet and clean and had a good time!"

  • Quiet, Gorgeous View of White Lake

"We loved the view of the lake from both inside the home and outside on the front porch. It was great to have use of the canoes, a ladder to climb down into the lake, and the dock to sit on to read or to talk to those floating in the water. We enjoyed using the fire pit, the picnic tables, and lawn chairs out by the lake. The bike path right across the street was definitely a plus for those wanting to run or ride bikes. We enjoyed exploring the towns of Whitehall, Montague, and even Grand Haven down the road a bit. Our adult children especially liked the Book Nook and Java Shop in Montague. One day we took a road trip up to Sleeping Bear Dunes, which was a long drive but fun for those who enjoy climbing the dunes. The pier near the Whitehall Light House Museum was fun for those who enjoy jumping, flipping, and diving into the water. We loved the beaches on Lake Michigan. The two things we had to be flexible with were the bathrooms and the bunk beds. The only stand-up shower is in the bathroom off of the master bedroom, so we had to take shifts showering. Also the 2 bunk beds were not ideal for adults, but would be fine for children. The bunk beds were not the most comfortable and were squeaky. We had a one year old with us, though, and really appreciated that there was a gate for the stairs and a high chair type of seat provided. It was also great to have a washer and dryer in the basement to use. The kitchen was beautiful, the seating at the table was nice, and the family room in the basement was great. There was a nice variety of games provided also for those rainy days. It was a nice place to stay."
