  • Most Excellent Adventure

"This was our first trip to Michigan, but it won't be our last. To start with, John our host, was excellent. He was there to meet us, in the pouring rain, even though we were several hours later than expected, due to traffic. He knew all the answers to all our crazy questions about where to go and what to do. There were 4 adults in our group and the house was more then sufficient in size to accommodate all of us. The house is very well maintained and the kitchen had everything that we needed plus. This has not always been the case in rental homes that we have gone to. Other than there being no salt water, this Jersey family thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring the area, mostly Glen Arbor down through Empire and a little in Traverse City. It was a joy to come home every night to a very well kept home and relax with a movie on the giant tv. Time didn't allow us to use the fire pit, but the gas grill was a great plus for cooking after a day out exploring, hiking and kayaking."

  • Truly a hidden gem!

"My family just got back from an amazing week at "Camp Cruddy." I have been going "Up North" since I was a child but had never stayed in Elk Rapids. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is an amazing location. Traverse City is a short drive south and Charlevoix and Petoskey is a short drive north. The best part don't have to do any of that as the house and location is already perfect! Everything can be found in Elk Rapids! Also, Torch Lake (one of the most beautiful on earth) is within 10 minutes if you want to spend a day there on a pontoon as we did. All in all we could not have asked for a better place...fully stocked kitchen, ample space, amazing view of Grand Traverse Bay, etc, etc, etc! I could go on forever...we cannot wait to stay here again!"

  • Big rambling old house a short walk from downtown Charlevoix

"We stayed at this fine old house as part of a family reunion at the end of July. With 9 in our party we appreciated the spacious downstairs areas with a living room large enough to accommodate us all and a dining room to match. There are two window air conditioning units, one in the living room, the other upstairs in the master bedroom. Other bedrooms have box fans to keep things cool. None of the other houses our extended family rented had a/c so we came out ahead. All bedrooms are upstairs. Downtown Charlevoix with its shops and restaurants is only a five minute walk away. We found ourselves timing our excursions around the drawbridge which goes up every half-hour (approximately). The wireless network was good. Beds were adequate. The kitchen lacked for nothing. A large two-car garage made it easy to keep our cars off the street (not that that would have been a problem). The only negative aspect of the house is due to its proximity to the four lane highway that runs past the front. The windows are new and well sealed, keeping much of the street noise out although from time to time the house would briefly shake when a passing truck hit a bump. Traffic dies down in the evening making this less of a problem then. Pulling out onto the highway is a bit tricky due to the curve it takes in the vicinity of the house, part of which is obscured by shrubs. Still, this was never a problem for us. Terri, the owner, is very pleasant and helpful and we enjoyed meeting her. All in all, a great base for your vacation in Charlevoix."

  • Awesome, Fun, Quiet Getaway!

"A group of friends and I decided to take a getaway trip for a few days away, we were planning on skiing/snowboarding at Bittersweet Ski Resort one of the days and wanted a nice, cozy, secluded rental to stay in. We were looking most forward to the hot tub and view of the river. Neither disappointed! Unfortunately, the snow accumulation was not enough to ski, so we went into downtown Saugatuck and strolled around the cute shops, had lunch at Wally's (which I would recommend for a quick drink and good burger), the locals were so nice! We then decided to just stay in the rental, set up a fire, played the multitude of games that were provided, and enjoyed a nice sit in the hot tub. This house has everything you need! It was warm and inviting, very clean, private, quiet and serene. Only thing is the height of the ceilings (many of my friends are 6'2" or taller, so some ducking was occurring), but that is just in a minor hallway of the house; the wireless connection is limited but that was expected due to the location. Roxanne was very accommodating and helpful prior to the stay, and we will most DEFINITELY be booking another stay at the Harmony River House any season of the year!"
