  • Excellent vacation spot

"We had a great time at the Boat House. The cabin was clean, well taken care of and had all the comforts of home. Enjoyed sitting by the fireplace when it got cool in the evening."

  • Nice place for a big group

"The house was great - nice and big. We were a group of 12 women in our 30's, meeting for a reunion over Labor Day. Everybody has moved across the country by now, so we decided to meet for a weekend up north. There was plenty of room in the kitchen area for everybody to hang out and socialize while we made food together. The place is also pretty close to lots to do - within 20 minutes of a variety of choices (breweries, riding stable, town). It was a cooler weekend, so we didn't all go swimming, but note that it's weedy close to the dock (just as you'd expect though, most MN lakes have conservation ordinances preventing people from making beaches). It was nice though - the water was refreshing. Plus, we didn't run out of hot water even though we had that many women! I suppose the one knock I've got about it is the rental process. Sherry is very sweet, and helpful with lots of ideas to do around town or on the lake, but there were clearly some trust issues there. She just kept asking what we were going to be doing the whole time, and insisted on coming by to check us in even after I told her once we got there that it was a straightforward place, it looked great, no questions. She ended up coming to the house on Saturday afternoon (well into our stay) and the check in process was her showing me the stuff that's already clearly written on the contract, check-in document, and notes around the house. It came across as nosy, and it was a disruption to our vacation, so I'm sour about that. I assume she just wants to make sure people are having fun, but she inserted herself too strongly into our private time. She asked why we were getting together, what we were celebrating, what we were planning on doing.. a bunch of times. I assume she wasn't satisfied by my answers. She kept asking, which is where that snoopy feeling came from. It was like she wanted every detail, like she was trying to approve our plans or something strange. To end on a good note though, we all had a great time. We stuck around the house for the most part, made our own food, and really got a chance to relax and have fun by the lake. The open format of the kitchen/dining/living area was really nice. One night we went over to Zorbaz, which is the perfect raucous townie bar/restaurant you could ask for. Food, lots of space, impressive selection of local and MN beer on tap. Overall we enjoyed ourselves on our stay!"

  • Second visit even better than first!

"This was our second visit to this amazing property and it was even better than the first. The weather was beautiful. There's so much to do with boating, tubing, skiing, fishing, board games, reading, sand castles.....we see no reason to leave the property the entire week! My kids caught tons of fish off the dock again this year with cane poles and a can of corn. We brought our boat and easily tied it to the dock. The lake is usually very quiet and perfect for skiing and tubing. Thanks again for a wonderful week of memories!"

  • Great Vacation spot

"We arrived the Sunday before Labor day and stayed for 3 nights. It was very peaceful and relaxing even with a little bit of bad weather. Our dogs were able to come with and enjoy some time away from the city with us. The cabin was in great shape with every amenity we needed available to us. Cooking supplies, bedding, towels, firewood, blankets, boat, life jackets. It was all there and we felt very at home. We drove to Nisswa one day and did some shopping. Otherwise we sat around the cabin and read, had fires, cooked, went fishing, and enjoyed nature. Most importantly, the Herzog's were great. They were easy to deal with and prompt in replying to emails. We're very thankful they let us use their cabin."
