  • A great "loon" experience

"We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful home on Pickerel Bay. The view from the living room affords the opportunity to see beautiful sun rises and sunsets as well as loon and eagle watching. We woke up to loons every day and each evening we listened again as they called to each other to find their way "home". We saw a few eagles (or maybe it was the same one) over the course of our two week stay. Even watching the rain was enjoyable to us as we found it very relaxing. The water is so clear, we would sit on the dock and watch the fish. Hubby caught many bass, but the walleye seemed to stay in hiding. We ended up going to Pughole Lake and there he caught quite a few Northern Pike. We loved taking drives down the many dirt roads but found out that without 4-wheel drive it wouldn't be a good idea...and if the sign says "share the road" and there's a picture of a 4-wheeler, well, you may not want to venture down that road! lol We ate at Cedar Creek Grille and found the food wonderful, but mostly cooked at the cabin, either inside or on the gas grill. On rainy days we watched movies and took naps and did puzzles, but when we could, we were on the water! It was so nice having a dock as it would rain, then clear up and we could go for a paddle in the kayaks to watch the sun set...sigh...loved it! We paddled to Little Trout Lake one day and saw a Loon on her nest, then she dove into the water and we were able to see her swimming it was so clear. Another day we paddled to Trout Lake and we paddled to Bluewater Lake a couple of times. The water is a bluish green on Bluewater Lake and Little Trout...just like you're kayaking in an acquarium...can't say enough about it! We purchased wood from Greg up the road and had a bonfire one night and it got a little chilly another night so we actually had a fire in the fireplace, lol. All the accommodations were wonderful. I wonder, however, would you consider including the motor boat with the rental? :)"

  • First VRBO experience set the bar high!

"Everything about this stay was the epitome of ease, comfort, and affordability. Andrea was extremely prompt in all her communications and answered every question we had. The home is clean, up-to-date, and spacious -- especially the kitchen and backyard! We made good use of the sauna, outdoor chimnea, enclosed gazebo, and Keurig in the kitchen (stocked with plenty of choices from hot cocoa to tea to coffee). The kitchen is well-stocked in all respects; plenty of spices and essentials like brown sugar and butter, as well as all the cooking accoutrements you'd ever need! It's less than 5 minutes from a small shopping center in Babbitt, so you can easily pick up groceries, fill up your gas tank, or drop off mail. This was our first experience with VRBO, and we would highly recommend this property to anyone!"

  • Winter Snowmobiling

"The group of seven from southern MN enjoyed the house and its close location to the snowmobile trail being out the back door on the lake. The accommodations were excellent, but the garage was VERY nice as we could put the snowmobiles inside and not worry about them!! We snowmobiled over 665 miles in 5 days riding. Was nice to have Tower close by to eat out or pickup supplies. Beds were very comfortable. Tamra was EXCELLENT to work with at the last minute planning. We will be BACK!"

  • Amazing Cabin with Amazing Views!

"My fiancé and I like to plan a little "getaway" along the north shore each fall. Usually we stay somewhere in Duluth or its surrounding cities, but because we wanted to do more hiking this year, we decided to venture a little further north. We booked the A-Frame simply because we loved how cozy it looked and how close it was in proximity to the state parks that we wanted to go to, but WOW the pictures do not do it justice! This is absolutely the most beautiful rental we've ever stayed in. The rental was extremely clean and well-maintained, and felt like "home" as soon as we stepped foot inside. With three bedrooms plus a futon in the upstairs loft, the A-frame could easily fit a large family or a group of friends. There was more than enough room for the two of us! The outdoor fire pits were wonderful for evening bonfires complete with s'mores and star gazing. There was also a hammock and a variety of seating options along the exterior of the property. And I cannot emphasize enough how spectacular the view was! We had an unobstructed view of the beautiful Lake Superior in front of the A-frame, and hundreds and hundreds of trees bursting with fall colors surrounded the rest of the place. On our first morning at the rental, it was unusually warm for fall and we enjoyed breakfast on the front deck while watching the sun rise over superior. It was wonderful having a fully-equipped kitchen to cook all of our meals in, and we utilized the grill 2/3 nights. There is a great little grocery store just a few minutes away, so we were able to stock up on the things that we needed as soon as we got into town. There are plenty of restaurants and a delicious pizza place nearby as well. We spent most of our vacation outdoors - we hiked Tettegouche Park, Gooseberry Falls, Sugarloaf Cove, Palisade Head, Black Beach, Hidden Beach, Beaver River, Split Rock Lighthouse, and more... And the best part was that all of these places were within a 20 minute drive from the A-frame! After a long day of hiking, it was lovely to be able to head back to our rental, curl up next to the fireplace and watch a movie (there is even a selection of DVDs in the entertainment center for you to enjoy!). We both have agreed that this was the most relaxing vacation that we've ever been on (we even liked it better than Florida!!!), and we will definitely be back. Whether you're looking for adventure or you simply want to relax and unwind (or both!) I would highly recommend the A-frame!"
