  • Very nice house for family fun!

"Since my wife and I have enjoyed the area for years, we wanted to bring our adult children and granddaughter along for their first long overdue trip to the area. The house is great! It is amazing how it was refurbished and there are many pictures of the house relocation and renovation. They kept some of the 100 year old character with the wood floors while having modern plumbing and wiring. It is an amazing result. The setup is similar to a housekeeping cabin in a resort. We brought towels, but all else including linens and a well stocked kitchen is provided. The deck was amazing, especially at night while we stargazed. The small town of Whalan is peaceful but just minutes from Lanesboro. We biked and kayaked in the Root river valley."

  • Girls Weekend

"Five of us stayed at this Preston hideaway and had a fabulous weekend! We used all the space in the house and had a bonfire our last night with a beautiful full moon. The house was great - beds were comfortable, plenty of room, and the character of the house is present everywhere. We shopped in Lanesboro down to Harmony and had great eating and drinking experiences along the way. Thanks to Tara for meeting us, giving us the history of the house and making our stay so memorable!"

  • Rustic cabin retreat on the Root River

"We stayed here over Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed our stay. We had 6 adults and a baby. As other reviewers noted it is a beautiful, well-made though rustic cabin and is a bit dark and musty especially when you first arrive and the windows have been closed. The other challenge was the sounds carry through the cabin and keeping a baby asleep when others were up was challenging. The deck is beautiful and large though we would be cautious about taking a crawling or newly walking baby on it due to it's height above the ground and wide spaces between railings. We enjoyed walking the driveway, fishing and kayaking in the river. Preston is an easy drive for anything you forgot. The owner was easy to great. He was easy to reach, very responsive and upfront about how rustic the cabin was, the resident bat and steep driveway. We would consider staying here again."
