"Let's start with the view; EXCEPTIONAL! You are located on the river bank with much privacy, the river is crystal clear and flowing. The rocks that line the river are gorgeous and colorful. You have views of the mountains on three sides from the back deck. We hung a portable hammock in the trees after a long hike and took a nap while listening to the river rush by.
The home is clean, spacious and very well stocked, there was nothing we felt we were missing being away from home. The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of towels. The washer and dryer came in handy after a few long days hiking.
This home's location was perfect for us as we did not want to stay in the park but close enough for a quick drive to the West Entrance. We drove into Columbia Falls for groceries on the evening of our arrival, but we could have easily picked up groceries right down the street in Hungry Horse.
We traveled by Amtrak from Chicago to West Glacier where we rented a car from Hertz. Since our train arrived later, our car was in the parking lot with the keys in the glove box waiting for us, no attendant to deal with, just a phone call the following day. The same happened in return when we left by train, we simply left the car in the parking lot.
If you use a personal guide, ask for Jeremy Covert with Montana Raft Co. He is excellent, knowledgeable and full of history on the park.
Finally, a shout out to the homeowner, Darlene who was very easy to deal with and who had open communications during the whole booking process and then some. Thank you!
Also, during our stay, Darlene had a telescope setup in the home focused on a bald eagles nest where I became attached to watching "Bob & Kevin" , the named juvenile eagles perched in their nest across the river. It was a treat to watch them every day. I was so hoping they would begin their first flight while there, but I guess they simply weren't ready.
You won't be disappointed with this lovely home, enjoy Glacier National Park, its magnificent!"
