  • Perfect nature-loving family retreat on the back bay

"First of all, it took me a month to write this review because it is hard to describe the joy we continue to feel while staying in this home away from home that is perfectly situated just off the island on the back bay. 5 generations ago, our ancestors were among the first non-native settlers on 7 Mile Island. In fact, my cousin's great Aunt was the first baby born in Avalon. Her name was Avalon Corson Kandle, and her parents won the prize given to parents if the first baby born there--the prize was a free lot. My aunt's father and grandfather built a cottage across the bay on 88th Street in the mid '20s. So, you can understand how much the island means to me and the rest of my family. We have been renting homes on and off the island for decades, and this lovely home is the only one I wish to return to again and again. We also rented it in May of this year and will return next spring. The home is just the right size for a family and its guests. There are three bedrooms that sleep 6 upstairs, and a large dem/media room in the lower level that has a pull out FIFA, another sofa as well as a loveseat. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the owners plan to remodel it in the near future. The patio area is perfect for barbecuing. They not only have a deck that offers a perfect launching place for kayaks and paddle boards, but they also have an upper deck with plenty of chairs and a table to enjoy the sunsets. There are kayaks that the owners generously provide, including a very comfortable tandem. The deck is great for fishing and the owners also provide crab traps. There is nothing like the calm quiet mornings out on the deck, not to mention the fantastic sunsets! We so appreciate being able to walk from the house to places such as the Wetlands Institute, located just across the street, and to stroll across the bridge into town. No need to search for a parking spot and keep feeding those meters! To readers who are not yet familiar with this wonderful island and surrounding area, some favorite places and activities we have enjoyed over the years include; the award-winning Cape May County Zok up the road in Cape May Court House, the Csoe May-Lewis Ferry, the Sone Harbor Point at Hereford Inlet, the Cape May slight House, the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, the Stine Harbor Museum, the alpaca farm in North Cspe May, the zlobster House Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf in Cape May, charter fishing on the Never Enuf out of Avalon at the Avalon Fishing Center."

  • PERFECT FAMILY RETREAT

"This is the second year we have rented this property with my extended family. The house has everything you could ask for, and Richard and Linda are such great owners. They make sure you've got everything you need, and even sent us local information so we knew what was happening in town before we got there. We spent plenty of time lounging on the deck, looking at the ocean - even took in some sunrises and sunsets! Being in Stone Harbor is like coming home again, having spent vacations down the shore all my life, and this house feels like a home away from home. Our family has created wonderful memories at "our beach house" and I hope we can create more in the future! Thanks Richard and Linda for sharing your lovely beach property. We absolutely LOVE being there!"

  • Quiet, Clean, and Family Friendly

"From the moment we walked into this condo, we were thrilled! This two bedroom condo had ample space for the 4 people in our group to be comfortable. Parking is available with this unit! There is plenty of closet and storage space for everything you might need to bring with you. (Don't bring too much...there are even toys and games available!) The kitchen is stocked and all appliances were working beautifully! We were able to bake, boil (in the kitchen), and bbq (on the outdoor grill.) The beach is very close! When it got too hot to be on the beach, the pool was a welcome break. Not only can you see the ocean and swimming pool from the covered patio, we were able to see the fireworks from this upper floor location. The owners have an outdoor table available for your use on this covered patio. This is not always included with other condos. Please know there are no elevators, but the stairs are an easy climb. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, this is the perfect place!"

  • Ideal!

"My siblings and cousins spent a wonderful weekend here. Every year since our parents passed away we have met somewhere to stay connected and have a good time together. This house was perfect for us in the amount of space it provided - both personal space in the bedrooms and together space in the living areas. We could (and did) sit on the deck and talk for hours. We could (and did) sit inside and watch football games. We could (and did) sit up late in small groups and raid the fridge. It's close enough to town to walk. It's close enough to the beach - one block! - to go over and over again. The house isn't brand new and shiny, but rather exudes the love from family and good care. The contact with the owners was prompt, easy, and very accurate. Would highly recommend."
