  • Perfect nature-loving family retreat on the back bay

"First of all, it took me a month to write this review because it is hard to describe the joy we continue to feel while staying in this home away from home that is perfectly situated just off the island on the back bay. 5 generations ago, our ancestors were among the first non-native settlers on 7 Mile Island. In fact, my cousin's great Aunt was the first baby born in Avalon. Her name was Avalon Corson Kandle, and her parents won the prize given to parents if the first baby born there--the prize was a free lot. My aunt's father and grandfather built a cottage across the bay on 88th Street in the mid '20s. So, you can understand how much the island means to me and the rest of my family. We have been renting homes on and off the island for decades, and this lovely home is the only one I wish to return to again and again. We also rented it in May of this year and will return next spring. The home is just the right size for a family and its guests. There are three bedrooms that sleep 6 upstairs, and a large dem/media room in the lower level that has a pull out FIFA, another sofa as well as a loveseat. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the owners plan to remodel it in the near future. The patio area is perfect for barbecuing. They not only have a deck that offers a perfect launching place for kayaks and paddle boards, but they also have an upper deck with plenty of chairs and a table to enjoy the sunsets. There are kayaks that the owners generously provide, including a very comfortable tandem. The deck is great for fishing and the owners also provide crab traps. There is nothing like the calm quiet mornings out on the deck, not to mention the fantastic sunsets! We so appreciate being able to walk from the house to places such as the Wetlands Institute, located just across the street, and to stroll across the bridge into town. No need to search for a parking spot and keep feeding those meters! To readers who are not yet familiar with this wonderful island and surrounding area, some favorite places and activities we have enjoyed over the years include; the award-winning Cape May County Zok up the road in Cape May Court House, the Csoe May-Lewis Ferry, the Sone Harbor Point at Hereford Inlet, the Cape May slight House, the Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, the Stine Harbor Museum, the alpaca farm in North Cspe May, the zlobster House Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf in Cape May, charter fishing on the Never Enuf out of Avalon at the Avalon Fishing Center."

  • Still Terrific Townhouse!

"This was our second time staying at this terrific townhouse. Our family of 4, plus two of our teen's friends, enjoyed the comfortable, convenient accomodations and charming Stone Harbor locations. We arrived to find beach tags, beach chairs and cart for the easy walk to the beach. Enjoyed strolling to town each evening - Springers is so close, we just had to get ice cream each night. Everything was clean, sofa is brand new, and deck is the perfect place for watching the sun go down. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on the back patio at the Reeds hotel, and were very happy that our favorite 5&10, Hoys, is still going strong. Working with the property owner was very easy. We will surely return!"

  • Great house, hot week -- central air was a lifesaver!

"We had a great stay at the house, some really good memories were created here. Wonderful location, very close to the main drag. Plenty of sleeping room, and the living room was larger than it looked in the photos. Only drawback is the kitchen, which is cozy but manageable. This house will be even more wonderful once the roof deck is complete!"

  • Best rental we have stayed in!

"This property is absolute perfection. The owner was more than accommodating when we decided to stay an extra night.. everything is so well thought out, it is a perfect house for a large family or group... if you have kids especially I highly recommend this property because of the location... there are basketball courts, playground, large fields across the street and that alone is priceless! You will not regret staying in this lovely home! We are definitely booking this week for next year!"
