  • Amazing getaway surrounded by beautiful scenery!

"We spent 5 nights at this wonderful property. When we were first planning our New Mexico vacation, we had some challenges finding a nice, centrally located place that was large enough to accommodate our family of 6 (3 teens and one wannabe teen). While Abiquiu might look remote, it is in fact very convenient to Santa Fe, Taos/near by ski areas, as well as Ghost Ranch, and other locations such as Bandelier. Beyond the location, the property itself is very spacious and comfortable. Our boys enjoyed the loft while our girls had their own bedroom. The main area was very comfortable with the wood burning stove and big TV for post-ski couch potato time. The kids thought that the heated toilet seat in the large bath area was very nice on those cold winter nights. Also, the fact that the property had an instant hot water heater (not a tank) was a very nice feature, and made it so none of us ever had a cold shower. The kitchen was fully equipped including a nice gas stove and large refrigerator. This room came in very handy, as we cooked many of our meals at the house. The sunroom was nice place enjoy coffee and quiet before the kids woke in the morning. The property had everything that we needed and owners were very responsive in any case where we had questions, concerns, or needs. We hope to visit again some day, as we left a long list of places we want to see & things we want to do."

  • Outstanding...We were so sad to leave...

"Let me just assure you, if you are considering a getaway in the area of Abiquiu, New Mexico, you cannot go wrong with the Casita De Chuparosa. My husband and I took our 8 year old granddaughter with us on our 4 night getaway to Northern New Mexico. We looked at every available accommodation and spent days weighing the pros and cons of each one. This casita fit the bill in every way. Gorgeous views from every angle of the property, very easy access from Hwy 84, a well-stocked general store very near, and all the most beautiful and interesting sights in this region are very accessible. You will LOVE the way the owner has gone above and beyond to decorate this home in lovely southwestern style and every need that might have arisen was so thoughtfully attended to. Our little granddaughter loved being able to feed and interact with the horse, donkeys, alpacas and llama! Being vegan ourselves, it was a wonderful surprise that the owner was, too. Although he usually provides standard breakfast items for his guests, he was kind enough to provide us with vegan breakfast items which we so appreciated! In short, there was literally nothing that we would have changed or that was lacking in our stay. Jeff is so kind and laid back and fun to visit with and really goes the extra mile to make your time in this incredible part of the country memorable. There's definitely a reason why the ratings are so high for the Casita De Chuparosa! Thanks, Jeff!! We hope we all meet up again one day soon!"

  • One of the most remarkable, scenic places that I have ever visited

"Beautiful scenic setting in a red rock walled canyon, things to explore in a number of directions. The lodging situation was even better than I had surmised from the web. The campers are modern and the beds are new and comfortable; the cooking facilities are very handy; cooking gear, utensils, etc. are all there; the outhouse has a view and is well ventilated. And a shower at the end of a hard day hiking is so very welcome. It's not really a cabin, it's not really camping - it's glamping! If I could give 6 stars I would. All in a wilderness that looks more like the canyon country of Utah than what I expect in New Mexico. Well worth a visit!"

  • Nice surprise!

"We needed a long weekend before school started and I looked all over southern and western Colorado and was unable to find anything available, accepting of dogs, and reasonable! We found Shirley's place and I have to admit to being leery at first. The outside photos are not impressive and the owner is right next door. Not an issure as it turns out! Shirley is a hands off, lovely, hostess. The floor plan is very open, lots of natural light, high ceilings, warm colors, tastefully decorated. Everything we needed was right there. She thought of absolutely everything. She actually made most of the spanish Colonial furnishings. The house is on top of a bluff. The back deck is huge and the views are amazing. Our kids toasted hotdogs and marshmallows in the fireplace on the deck while we stargazed. There is a bedroom upstairs that has to be accessed via an outside staircase. My husband and I were up there the first night and the breezes and ceiling fan cooled it beautifully. Not a great fit for people with small kids or tiny bladders but, when we traded the following nights with our teenaged boy, he was in heaven! Absolutely Recommend this place. Thank you, Shirley. It was just what we needed."
