  • Fun and funky - perfect for two!

"What a fun and funky casita! Adobe style with mudded walls, tile floor (look for the little peculiar ones here and there!), and 2 fireplaces! Bed was super comfortable - best bed I've slept on in all of my travels. Plenty of pillows and blankets. Chairs and couch were very comfortable as well - perfect for après ski when you are too tired to do anything but fall onto the couch! Lots of storage areas for all your gear, plus plenty of freezer and fridge space for all the hippy food available at the grocery store. The casita overall, is very cozy, warm, and inviting. Owner was very nice, extremely easy to contact, and left perfect instructions and hints for anything you can imagine. Surprisingly simple to find and an easy drive to Taos Ski Valley. Just a straight shot! Also just moments away from Arroyo Seco - an interesting community with little shops and eateries. Plan on staying again for our next TSV trip!"

  • Lovely home

"Brenda and Ben have a lovely home that is nicely laid out, furnished and stocked. Didn't feel like a rental. The rooms are all a good size and the furniture was good quality and comfortable. They have created an English-style garden so lots of flowers to enjoy and stunning views for miles. Loved watching the horses across the street wander about the field. There were 5 of us and we had additional family staying nearby and we were able to comfortably prepare and host a couple dinners for a total of 11 with all the appliances, cooking and dinnerware we could need. We were there in early July so there were mosquitos in the early morning and evening but the many windows and doors were well screened so we could avoid them without feeling closed in. The temperatures inside and out were great. It's a little bit of a drive into town (10-15min), especially when Taos is busy as the main street gets very slow but the Smith's and Albertson's were well stocked. The slightly closer Cid's just didn't have enough selection and was significantly more expensive. High Mesa cottage is only a couple miles from Arroyo Seco which has a mellow, artsy main street where you can get pottery and ice cream and we walked over or stopped on our way back from hiking a few times. We went to the 4th of July parade there which I can only describe as a hoot. The cottage is well located overall and it was pretty easy access from the house to some great hikes in the north east ski valley area (~20min), a little bit longer to some southern hikes and rafting (~45 min or an hour). There was also a well stocked outdoor store in Taos (Taos Mountain Outfitters) that was very helpful in replacing my husband's hiking boots and finding some shirts for my son. When back in the Taos area we would definitely come back to High Mesa Cottage."

  • Wonderful stay

"We loved Casita Des Montes. We have stayed in Taos and/or Arroyo Seco many times but this was one of the most pleasant settings we have been in. The house was very comfortable with beautiful pottery, blankets, and art along with comfortable couches and rustic furniture. THe pottery was so nice that I went to the Stephen Kilborn gallery to see about buying some. The mix of pottery with everyday dishes was really nice. We had our two dogs with us and they were able to "run around" the property without being on leashes. The snow inhibited them a bit (they were small schnauzers) but they still had a lot to explore. I worried about them barking with the caretakers so close next door, but they really only barked when they saw someone they didn't know (Lawrence-caretaker) or neighborhood dogs or the occasional bunny in the surrounding fields. There was a lot of snow the last couple of days of our trip but the driveway and walkways were kept shoveled and we had no issues. The house was warm and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything that we needed. The only two slight issues that we had were that we worried about the dogs because the caretakers house was so close and we didn't want them disturbed, and the hot water heater was not hot enough for two back to back showers. Not being in any type of hurry, it wasn't a big deal. However, it could be. We loved the house, the property and the location. We skied, we went into both Taos and Arroyo Seco for dinner and shopping, and it was easy to get anywhere from Apple Hill Farm. A tip for other travelers: we went to see the tribal Buffalo Dances at the Taos Pueblo and it was truly an experience that I would recommend. It was a great trip. We would stay at Casita Des Montes again."

  • Perfect ski house

"Beautiful home! Nice, open floor plan with everything you need! Only minutes to the ski slopes, quiet, and kid friendly neighborhood. Right next door to the pool, tennis/basketball courts and lots of land for the kids to run safely."
