  • Nice surprise!

"We needed a long weekend before school started and I looked all over southern and western Colorado and was unable to find anything available, accepting of dogs, and reasonable! We found Shirley's place and I have to admit to being leery at first. The outside photos are not impressive and the owner is right next door. Not an issure as it turns out! Shirley is a hands off, lovely, hostess. The floor plan is very open, lots of natural light, high ceilings, warm colors, tastefully decorated. Everything we needed was right there. She thought of absolutely everything. She actually made most of the spanish Colonial furnishings. The house is on top of a bluff. The back deck is huge and the views are amazing. Our kids toasted hotdogs and marshmallows in the fireplace on the deck while we stargazed. There is a bedroom upstairs that has to be accessed via an outside staircase. My husband and I were up there the first night and the breezes and ceiling fan cooled it beautifully. Not a great fit for people with small kids or tiny bladders but, when we traded the following nights with our teenaged boy, he was in heaven! Absolutely Recommend this place. Thank you, Shirley. It was just what we needed."

  • Awesome Place!!

"La Casita is a fabulous place to stay - you will find none better! We are just ending our week's stay and I don't want to leave!! The house is well furnished, clean, comfortable and peaceful and the surrounding grounds and garden are beautiful. The owner/proprietor, Sarita, has thought of everything to make her guests' stay perfect. She is very cordial and accommodating and is nearby if needed. I am already looking forward to our return stay - would not want to stay anywhere else!"

  • Peaceful, remote, beautiful country

"I stayed at Casa Ambrosia for 3 nights in late March. Lovely. I was looking for something close enough for day trips to Ojo Caliente, the Ra Paulette cave tour at Origin, Taos, Santa Fe, Tent Rocks, Valles, etc., and this place was close enough to make those trips easy but remote enough to provide an incredibly peaceful and tranquil stay at night. Worth noting, the little restaurant in El Rito (El Farolito), is amazingly good. Best Mexican food I have ever had!"

  • Spacious home with everything you could possibly need

"What a wonderful home. Plenty of space for three teenagers and five adults to spread out, lots of places to relax both indoors and out. The views were fantastic, and the home itself was appointed with everything you would need to stay--pretty much forever. We were struck by how quiet it was, both outside but even in the house; when early risers got up, the late sleepers were not disturbed at all. Brooks was terrific to work with and responded quickly to any questions we had. We feel lucky to have stayed in such a special place. We loved having a fire in the living room most evenings and in the fire pit outside. The enclosed porch was wonderful to sit in and heated up enough during the day that one teen slept there each night and was plenty warm. Our kids enjoyed walking to the river, using on the swing in the yard, and seeing the two burros and one of the cats that reside nearby. There was plenty of space at the large table in the dining room for us to share meals at the end of each day, which we spent exploring the area (Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch, Plaza Blanca, the Echo Amphitheater, El Rito, and Santa Fe). We hated to leave and go back to our regular lives."
