  • A wonderful house in Taos

"The Bear House is one of the nicest houses we've ever stayed in. I kept moving with my tea and book from room to room, during our stay. I wanted to make sure I enjoyed every reading spot, every view. The newer living room is bright and airy and spacious. The older living room (it seemed older to me) is cozy and perfect for reading or movie watching. And the master bedroom is something out of a (well-furnished) dream. I was even sort of sorry the weather turned warmer, while we were there, because we so enjoyed watching the fire from bed. If you cook, the kitchen will delight you. It's well stocked and well organized. And if you are bringing dog, the house really is fenced. Often I've rented places and the fenced area is sketchy at best. But Bear House fenced, which is a good thing, since there are coyotes in the area. And fox! It was great to hear the vixens early in the morning. It's a lovely and easy walk to downtown. And I made a habit, in the evening, of walking up Las Cruces to Penitente Lane, following Penitente to the old Taos Morada, which is a gorgeous and strange spot. And we got to practice piano as well. There's an upright grand piano in one of the bedrooms. I wish I could give the house 6 stars. It's a 6 star house."

  • Fun and funky - perfect for two!

"What a fun and funky casita! Adobe style with mudded walls, tile floor (look for the little peculiar ones here and there!), and 2 fireplaces! Bed was super comfortable - best bed I've slept on in all of my travels. Plenty of pillows and blankets. Chairs and couch were very comfortable as well - perfect for après ski when you are too tired to do anything but fall onto the couch! Lots of storage areas for all your gear, plus plenty of freezer and fridge space for all the hippy food available at the grocery store. The casita overall, is very cozy, warm, and inviting. Owner was very nice, extremely easy to contact, and left perfect instructions and hints for anything you can imagine. Surprisingly simple to find and an easy drive to Taos Ski Valley. Just a straight shot! Also just moments away from Arroyo Seco - an interesting community with little shops and eateries. Plan on staying again for our next TSV trip!"

  • Super nice house with room for everyone

"I have mostly all good things to say about this house, with only a handful of Small issues that are in no way deal breakers, but things that i believe can be easily fixed. Let me get the little things out of the way first: 1. There is a spiral staircase that leads up to the second floor bonus room. this staircase is very narrow and a bit scary. the frame is metal and it wobbles a bit, is coming apart at one or two seams, has areas that are rotted away and have been "patched" with bars. the stairs themselves feel very unstable. if you are not very balanced on your feet i would suggest just not going upstairs if you can help it. 2. In that upstairs bonus room it was very hot, and actually too warm in the bedrooms too. You'll find that the thermostats all over the house have labels asking you to not touch them. It's understandable the owner wouldn't want people messing with them, however they should have all been set much cooler since it was a warm week. 3. When we arrived, the bonus room upstairs had dead flies all over the carpet everywhere (and a few other little bugs), especially along the edges of the floor. as we knew kids would be up there, probably in bare feet, my husband went in search of a vacuum to get rid of them before anyone else arrived. 4. I'm not sure the cleaning crew cleaned the showers/tubs before we arrived as we found hair in a couple of them. Aside from those things i will say, this house is beautiful. it's so very southwest which is what we wanted. there was bed space for everyone (11 of us) and the beds were comfy. we Loved having the pool table, and were able to watch all our shows on netflix movies and the World Series with no problem. All the bedrooms have tv's which was nice. We had no trouble using the keypad/codes to get in. There is a community indoor pool on the street and the kids loved that. the bathrooms are spacious. all the essentials in the kitchen so we could cook. the owner was prompt and friendly with answering all my messages. the home is out of the way from town, on the way to the Taos Ski Valley. the drive into Taos was MAYBE 20 minutes if that, and didn't ever feel like a long drive. It was a great location. There were also 3 gorgeous horses from the property next door who would come by in the mornings to say hello and pose for pictures. I would definitely recommend this place for a family/group and hope to stay again myself sometime!"

  • Neat location, beautiful view & cool amenities

"The cabin is about 35 min from town of Taos which is pretty convenient to go back to the town for shopping. Is maintained in a very good condition with clean spacious bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, grill, clean hot tub, indoor fire place and outdoor bonfire pit and game activities in the basement. We enjoyed our stay and recommended it to our friends."
