  • Perfect spot for a family getaway in Lake Placid!

"My family has stayed at Wolfgang's house several times over the last few years, and there are several reasons why we keep coming back! -Location, location, location: Right on the shores of Mirror Lake, steps away from swimming and paddling in the summer months and skating or skiing in the winter. In the summertime, take a leisurely paddle across the lake on Tuesday nights to listen to free concerts in Main Street's Bandshell Park! The Mirror Lake Walk is also just up the driveway - an easy 2.6 mile cruise around the lake to stretch your legs. (Sidenote: this is also PERFECT for teenagers/ non-drivers as they can walk in to Main Street solo.) Restaurants and shopping are within walking distance and grocery stores are less than a 5 minute drive. About 15 minutes to Whiteface Mountain. -Rustic charm, yet spacious: The open floor plan is great for families! Lounge in the upstairs TV nook while still being able to hear conversations from the downstairs living room, kitchen, and dining room. Plenty of space for family gatherings, and the first floor is wheelchair accessible (I forget if we brought a ramp for the slight step up from the front door to the foyer or if one was provided....). While there are cozy nooks stashed all over the first floor, the area still feels spacious thanks to soaring ceilings and a gorgeous spiral staircase leading to the TV nook and upstairs bedrooms. There are three decks, one on each level of the house. From the ground floor living room and bedrooms, you can walk right out the door to the dock! -Comfort and convenience: As we've stayed here several times, I've slept in all of the beds in the house (and some of the couches....), and can vouch that they are SUPER COMFORTABLE. The 3 bathrooms are large and practical. The kitchen is well-equipped and comfortable; particularly love the table in the middle where you can either prep food or hang out and bother whoever is cooking :) -Separate living quarters (if wanted): There are two bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a living room on the ground floor of the house, which our family has alternately used as the "teen zone" or for couples wanting a bit of privacy from the rest of the group. -Easy communication with owner/managers: Wolfgang makes sure that there is always someone available to help out with any questions or concerns that may arise during your stay. If he is abroad, then he leaves contacts for his family members or caretaker, all of whom are also wonderful!"

  • Memorial day getaway

"We took an impromptu trip upstate for Memorial day weekend and Rose was a lovely, welcoming host! Her Lake Luzerne chalet was airy and welcoming, and right in the middle of a million outdoorsy things to do! She was super -accommodating, even allowing us to bring our dog for the weekend. I'd go back in a second!"

  • Peaceful, yet convenient to town

"We could not have asked for a better location for our family visit to Lake Placid. The property is at the end of a private, dirt driveway, and we enjoyed peaceful, sound nights of sleep while we were there -- yet were easily able to walk into Lake Placid. Although the pond is not deep enough for swimming, our family loved taking out the kayaks and paddle boards, and looking for gigantic tadpoles. We also set up the badminton set. The house is spacious, clean, and comfortable. The fire pit was gone during our stay, but we kept so busy that I'm not sure when we would have fit it in! Would definitely stay here again."

  • Family Vacation

"Excellent location. Eight of us. Two apartment house fitted our needs perfectly. We rented a boat for the week from Yankee Boat next door and spent every day at another island or location on the lake. Grandchildren ages 4 and 9 loved the destinations and being towed behind the boat on a large tube. Best locations - Speaker Heck Island ( 1.5 miles); Diamond Island ( 2.5 miles); Commission Point and Paradise Bay. Covered dock a real plus. Able to swim right off the dock in the protected cove. Nothing like boating and swimming with grandchildren !"
