  • Family fun!

"Our family loved our second visit to the "Guest House" as much as our first. We spent hours at the ponds fishing. The kids enjoyed the new ping pong table. So much to do. Carolyn has added many thoughtful touches to this rental and it feels like home. We can't wait to return."

  • Quiet apartment in great Upper West neighborhood

"Because there are few reviews of this on VRBO (log book in apartment shows many rentals), I've included a few extra details.  Bottom line: we will stay here again. The apartment is offered by a management company.  Although this likely increases the price, the assistance offered in regards to email, telephone and the set-up and maintenance of the apartment is a good tradeoff. This apartment in the back of the second floor of a brownstone is located in a toney and quiet residential Westside neighborhood with very convenient access to transportation, shopping and restaurants. No street  noise whatsoever. The floor plan itself is small but  efficient (the pictures on the website are accurate).  A big plus in summer are the two  quiet AC units: one  in the  main room /kitchenette area and one in the  small  bedroom.  They are more than adequate. (I don't know about cold weather heating.)  The supply of  small items had hits and misses. The bedroom and living room, the latter with its small barstool dining table,  are  excellent spaces to spend the few hours you will stay in the apartment. Although the appliances in the kitchenette are good, the counter space for food preparation is very small. While toasting bread, making an omelet on the 4 burner cooktop, boiling a cup of  water or preparing a frozen dinner (yuck) in the  microwave is simple, preparing a more involved meal is not easy. The cabinets over the counter are very high: you need a step stool (supplied) to access beyond the first shelf. These last few comments on the kitchenette may not be applicable to many renters. We found it a minor inconvenience.  It's a great place to stay.  We will surely come back to stay here."

  • Location, location, location!

"Great apartment in an absolutely unbeatable location. It is large (by NYC standards) and clean by old apartment standards - meaning it is very clean though there are some things that just come with an older apartment like some calk missing around the tub etc. While we were there, the building itself had an unpleasant odor but the apartment did not. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is noisy but that is the cost of being in the middle of everything. White noise from the provided white noise machine helps doesn't cover the sound from the street. But from this location you can easily get to anything you want or need to do & our adventures left us too exhausted to be bothered by the sound by the time we went to bed. You could explore just the area around the apartment for days. There's a big drugstore just a few doors down that carries anything you might have forgotten. And most importantly, there's a subway stop (6 line) next door to the apartment building entrance and stops for other lines within easy walking distance. Ken was friendly and prompt to respond to any questions. This apartment is bookmarked in my NYC travel folder and we'll definitely come again!!"

  • Perfect Little Cottage!

"We planned a trip to Niagara Falls but when we started looking at hotel prices, we realized we could rent a home for the same price. This little cottage was perfect for our family of 4 adults and 3 children. Its about an hour drive to Niagara Falls, but it's an easy ride. The home was exactly what we wanted. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The owner was kind enough to even leave water in the fridge for when we arrived. There was also shampoo and soap available! The size was perfect and we loved the updated kitchen and bath. The beds were very comfortable. The property was extremely clean too. The lake was a little difficult to get down to but it does state in the description that it's a rocky shore. Beautiful scene to wake up to in the morning. The only down side is no air, however the owner provides an ample amount of fans. The house cooled down very well once the sun went down. My only suggestion would be a new coat of paint for most of the cottage. There were a lot of scuffs on the walls, but it it is a rental, after all."
