  • Fantastic lake house, great for kids and relaxing.

"I've been visiting Skaneateles for many years and have stayed in most of the hotels and a number of houses. I must say that this was the best experience we have have had. We bought my 15 year old son, his 3 friends and my 18 year old daughter. The boys had an amazing time, hanging on the beach, fishing off the dock or playing ping pong in the basement. We also bought up our ski boat and moored it right off the dock. The house is setup nicely with the loft for the boys to sleep and separate bedrooms for the others. We would sit on the back deck and have coffee in the morning and watch the sun over the lake. The deck was so relaxing for everyone! The property was very clean and have everything that you needed. I had to contact the owner a few times to coordinate arrivals and he responded immediately. I would strongly recommend this house for anyone that wants a relaxing and fun vacation!"

  • Truly Magical - Skaneateles Haven on the Lake Has it All!

"Magical is the best was to explain just how you feel the minute you walk into this property! That feeling of love and caring transcends to all and it is not long before you take that "yes, I made a good choice" sigh of relief! Visiting the area for a family wedding held at Baltimore Woods and local apple festival over the Columbus Day weekend, I had the difficult decision of picking out a facility that would serve all, young and old - those looking to be active and others wanting to simply relax. Both my immediate and extended family had a wonderful time thanks to all that was available within this property or just a short drive away. As more family and friends visited throughout our stay, we had plenty of room, meals were easily handled with the fully stocked kitchen, dishes, and appliances - there are platters, bowels and baskets for every conceivable dish, and seating for a large crowd both inside and out. The beds are very comfortable, linens fantastic, and the washer and dryer let us return home to simply unpack after catching the stunning fall foliage! Everything you could possible need is located within the cottage, boat house, or shed. This is a perfect place to pack a small bag, jump in the car and enjoy all that Skaneateles and its beautiful surrounding area has to offer. My entire family experienced a wonderful weekend, bonded, while also experiencing something new while together at such a lovely facility. Lou you are fantastic to work with - I thank you for such a wonderful weekend that allowed me to bring my family together, something this facility was made for and accomplished easily! My only negative would be that the additional bunk house is quite small and as it was cold and rainy when we arrived on Friday, we did not end up using this area. I feel it would be quite warm during the summer months if four people were to sleep there but if you only want a place to lay you head after an active day - it could work."

  • Pinewood Cottage is a very nice, private cottage on beautiful Skaneateles Lake.

"I just returned from a very relaxing week at Pinewood Cottage. I stayed with my wife, brother, sister, two nieces, and my two medium/large dogs. The only thing I wish I could have changed, would have been spending two or more weeks, instead of only one. Pinewood is private and peaceful. Always a nice cool breeze on the deck. Few mosquitoes. The lake was surprisingly quiet for this time of the year. Much less boat traffic compared to several different places we've rented on Owasco Lake. The cottage itself is very well stocked. Everything needed for cooking, eating, showering and sleeping was already there. All the beds were comfortable and everyone slept exceedingly well. Plenty of fans provided, if desired. Lots of room for dining and relaxing, both inside and out. The dock was nice, and space was available for my canoe, and a power boat that we rented one day. There was plenty of room on the shore to leave my kayak. There are two parking spaces right next to the cottage. Lots of extra parking space available 100 feet or so from the cottage. The ability to walk up and down steps is necessary, especially to get to the lake/shoreline/dock. Access to excellent swimming was paramount to us, and Pinewood Cottage did not disappoint. The water was always clear, weed free, and delightfully cool, but not too cold. The lake bottom is rocky, so water shoes were used by some, but not all. Approx four feet deep, 25 feet from shoreline. Smallmouth bass fishing was excellent. I caught 13 while out on my friend's fishing boat one day, 10 more over a few different days from my kayak (within a 1/4 mile paddle from the cottage), and several smaller ones directly from the dock/shore. We caught a few 18 inch smallies, many in the 14-16 inch range, and two northern pike. Also caught a lake trout jigging in 90' deep water. Owners Barbara and Ken were perfect hosts. Never intrusive, but available any time you need them. They greeted us upon our arrival with a plate of freshly baked cookies, a nice card, and two large dog treats. They spent about 5 minutes showing us around the cottage and grounds, and then left us alone for the remainder of the week. Several good hiking areas are within 20-25 minutes. Skaneateles Conservation Area and Bear Swamp were favorites. Lots of room on the property above the cottage for the dog's regular bathroom duties. Thank you Barbara and Ken. We'll be back the next time we visit Skaneateles Lake."

  • Take a step back in time

"Our family of 5 went to visit Skaneateles for one week. Our hosts were very friendly. Though their house is located 200 feet from the cottage, it was a very private visit. The steps to the dock were not a problem as other reviewers mentioned. We also rented a boat and had no problem using the mooring and taking the rowboat to the mooring so we wouldn't have to wade into the water. The 11 acres of woods were great for walks and we saw deer, an owl and turkeys during our stay. The children enjoyed the creek as well as the lake activities. We were allowed to use the kayaks and canoe as we wanted. The setting is preserved as it was probably in the 50's when the cottage was likely built. The cottage was clean with a kitchen that was remodeled and a nice small bathroom. The kitchen did not have a dishwasher but that was okay since we had paper plates and many hands to help with dishes. The rooms were nice, but my husband and I chose to stay in the room with two twin beds since a double bed is a little small for us. That worked fine for us since our daughter enjoyed the double bed! We will return if we have the time in our schedule. It was very quiet and we were able to sleep uninterrupted every night. We enjoyed a fire in the firepit and found that the owners supplied the wood and propane for the fire and grill. It was a really nice time and we hope to return next year."
