  • Great Gettaway

"We had a glorious weekend with old friends. The red barn is a wonderful spot nestled in the woods on a hill. The house has breathtaking views which are not to be missed. The home's eclectic style is the perfect spot for those who like to cook a meal and share it with friends. The large farm table and huge central island made the kitchen a joy to cook in. All we had to do was bring food as this house is so well-equipped. The rooms are small but well appointed and the unique location of one of the sleeping suites behind a wall of books gives this place harry potter charm. The five children in our group between the ages of eight and 13 found niches to Hyden and places to play as it rained for two days of our stay. None of them ever complained about a lack of television and we never told the kids about the Wi-Fi. Great place don't miss it. we are already planning our next trip!"

  • Lovely

"We have returned to this wonderful cottage every fall for four years. It's clean and comfortable and charming. We love the surrounding countryside too. I highly recommend it for a secluded get away."

  • Cozy weekend stay

"Three friends and I stayed at this lovely, charming home while we were in the area for a weekend in mid-October. Though we had a very busy weekend scheduled and weren't able to spend much time in the house, when we were there it was delightfully cozy. The downstairs sitting area is very spacious - perfect for relaxing and enjoying the fall foliage in front of the large windows. The huge dining table would be perfect for doing a puzzle on a rainy afternoon, and though it wasn't particularly cold outside during our visit we did enjoy a fire in the fireplace one evening. The location of the house is prime, in the middle of a wooded, residential area that's close to Rhinebeck, where we spent most of our time during the weekend. There was one small hitch upon our arrival, which is the reason I have given four stars instead of five. It appeared that the owner had not been to the house after the guests who stayed before us. We arrived to find that the bedroom sheets had not been washed since the previous guests' stay, and the bathroom towels were piled on the floor, also seemingly unwashed. It wasn't a huge issue, as we're pretty flexible people, but it did mean that we had to do a few loads of laundry when we first got there. The guests before us also had not emptied the (full) bathroom trash upon their departure, so it was also up to us to do a bit of cleaning up after them. All things considered, we did greatly enjoy our time staying at this beautiful home."

  • Excellent Venue for Our Large Family Thanksgiving!

"This year I decided to host a big family Thanksgiving, but, unfortunately, my home was too small to house all of our guests. Luckily, I was able to find this lovely and very comfortable home just down the road. The house is very conveniently located on a quiet street with woods in the back and to the side. Just down the main road you will find Red Hook (only about 10 minutes by car) or head the other way and you are at a lovely winery or distillery (about 3 minutes by car)! The home is equipped with everything you could dream of - two main tvs (plus I think i saw one in the master bedroom as well) AND a home theatre room (which is absolutely adorable with its drive-in theatre design). There are multiple video gaming systems, boardgames galore, an outdoor play structure (so cool!), and a playroom that was the absolute delight of my 15 month old. Seriously, that play room...I might rent the house again just for that - and I live in town!! The house is clean, fully stocked with blankets, towels, and pillows, and there is every kitchen tool you could ever need - and I loved the vintage touches in the serving ware! The house is also very convenient for sharing space - their is a door to the finished basement (with a queen bed, a futon, a "mini" futon, the playroom, and movie theatre) from the upstairs, allowing privacy and to sequester noisy teenagers ;-) The kitchen is a good size (with a great giant island), and the table was perfect for our large family. The living room also has ample seating, which made it great for watching our home movies on the large tv! One thing to note in case it is relevant to you - the two bathrooms upstairs have gorgeous tubs, but you will need to step into them (an issue if you have mobility issues), there is a shower downstairs with a small step in and the stairs are carpeted and were easy to manage for my 82 year old grandmother, but did want to note it in case it were to be an issue for your group. Your hosts are polite and quick to reply - a very helpful informational "Read Me" book is provided that answers any possible question you could ever have! All in all, this is one of the best rentals I have stayed in - and I have stayed in upwards of 20 vacation rentals. Every detail is cared for, the hosts are helpful and attentive (but also fully give you your space and privacy), and you can even bring your pup (with approval of course). We had a great trip there and I most highly recommend!!"
