  • Wonderful rustic getaway!

"Pop's Cabin was a perfect weekend getaway for our 50th birthdays. Les and Elaine were great hosts and very responsive. The cabin is a real cabin... just so warm and inviting. We had two couples staying three nights and the accomodations provide for the right amount of privacy and together time. The beds and linens are comfortable. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed. We cooked gourmet meals two of the nights and wanted for nothing in the kitchen. Plenty of wine glasses and beer steins and frozen beer mugs. The knives are sharp and several cutting boards. The dining room table accomodates waymore than we needed. Nice entertainment system including whole house surround system which we used for a dance party that no one should ever see! The front porch provided a huge stack of wood for the fireplace and two nice rockers to relax in the quiet. You can barely hear a road with traffic in the distance. A big pine in the front yard was laced in white lights that gave the place a special brightness that made you feel at home. Les recommended the Hillrock Distillery that was less than a mile away. Do the one hour tour for $20. The tour guide was 24 and far beyond his years in intellect and personal interaction. He gave us hope for the younger generation. What an amaizing young man! We shot pool at Mt. Washington House, an 1800s tavern taken over by the late owner's daughter, Kelly. Three pool tables and the best service! We dined at The Pond and had a great time partying with the owners, Larry and Linda (thank you for the fabulous birthday dinner and drinks). We hiked Bash Bish Falls at Taconic Mountain. Out with the bad... so you can take in more bad. If you are coming in through Millerton, stop at Balck Rabbit Bar & Grill for a bloody mary - have them make it with the cucumber vodka or the pepper vodka - both were excellent! We want to thank Les and Elaine for sharing their place with us! It was one of the best birthday excursions we have taken and there have been many of them. We will be back this summer! Until then..."

  • Great Gettaway

"We had a glorious weekend with old friends. The red barn is a wonderful spot nestled in the woods on a hill. The house has breathtaking views which are not to be missed. The home's eclectic style is the perfect spot for those who like to cook a meal and share it with friends. The large farm table and huge central island made the kitchen a joy to cook in. All we had to do was bring food as this house is so well-equipped. The rooms are small but well appointed and the unique location of one of the sleeping suites behind a wall of books gives this place harry potter charm. The five children in our group between the ages of eight and 13 found niches to Hyden and places to play as it rained for two days of our stay. None of them ever complained about a lack of television and we never told the kids about the Wi-Fi. Great place don't miss it. we are already planning our next trip!"

  • Paradise Found in Copake

"My friends and I have done a "Friends Thanksgiving" every year for the past 15 years. What started as a dinner in someone's cramped apartment has turned into a weekend away full of lots of laughs, food, and drinks! The circle has grown as well, and so we're constantly looking out for house rentals that have the space to accommodate the size of the group, but also feels cozy enough to really just settle in and make some memories. This rental couldn't have fit the bill any more perfectly. The pictures don't do the house justice, especially outside by the lake. The colors reflecting off the leaves on the trees were absolutely stunning and really set the tone for the entire weekend. I can't imagine what it would be like in Summer to take advantage of the massive deck, the outdoor showers, tennis court, and lake for boating and swimming. Even without those things, this house was well worth it! And the bonus house served as great spillover so that anyone who wanted to turn in early could do so to the main house, and then the rest of us could continue to be our crazy, loud selves in the other house. The property manager, Jen, was extremely responsive at every turn and let us know that she was just a phone call away if we needed anything (we didn't - she had set us up perfectly). I really can't say enough about this property and am happy to recommend it!"
