"My family looks forward to our summer vacation on Shelter Island mostly because we get to stay here. Little Gem is really special--a sweet little cottage perfect for us, a family of 4 from NYC with two little girls (ages 5 and 1). Joan keeps a tasteful, clean, quaint space. We spend our mornings in the front yard, lounging in the hammock or running around with the kids. Afternoons are spent at Wades Beach, just a mile down the road. Dinner is either at Commander Cody's just around the corner or something made off the grill. The kitchen is well equipped with all the essential items to cook every meal. Joan is an attentive host--this year we rented the last week of summer to find the gas tanks for the grill empty. Joan was readily available when we reached out to her about the issue and quickly refunded us for refilling the tanks the next day. By the end of our stay, we always wish we could stay longer. We are already mapping out our return next summer. Thanks Joan for another wonderful stay!"

  • Highly Recommend

"This was the perfect house for our large group. We were comfortable and impressed with the spacious, yet private and quite home. We could comfortably fit 8 people, including all our luggage and the gear of 4 bikers and surfers. The house had everything we could have asked for. It was clean, nicely organized and ready for each of us. The house was exactly as described. Four spacious bedrooms, a large wrap-around deck, and a beautiful kitchen, living and dining room along with an exceptionally large backyard. We also loved the outdoor shower! It was a great place to come back to after a day at the beach. We would definitely rent again."

  • Location, Location, Location...to the beach!

"This was our first time renting a cottage in Montauk as opposed to staying in a hotel. We went with another couple and wanted a place with our own bedrooms with a comfortable common area so that we could eat, hang out and talk and this cottage met the criteria. It was also a short walk to the beach and very secluded from the main road. Alison was there to meet us when we got there and was very helpful with any questions or additional needs that we had. It was clean and quaintly decorated. From what I am told, a lot of the cottages built for only summer use in the similar price range are on the older side, with a rustic feel, and dank smell to them, as was this one. There were 2 bedrooms. The master had a comfortable king size bed, high ceilings and big windows that let in the early light. There were no room darkening shades. So, if you are able to sleep in a fully brightened room it shouldn’t be a problem. There was also a nest or 2 of baby birds living under the roof. Not sure when they leave the nest for good but they tended to get up and started chirping around sunrise (5am) which made sleeping soundly after 5am in the master bedroom a little challenging. The other bedroom was smaller (b/ still a good size) with only 1 window and shades that blocked out the sun. I know that a lot of people prefer a firm/hard mattress but I would consider bringing a foam mattress topper for additional comfort. The kitchen had all the amenities that we needed for our stay and the living room area was very inviting and comfortable. One last thing that didn’t take away from the amazing time we had but did prove to be a bit of an annoyance was the amount of flies that were in the house. When the windows were left open to take advantage of the fresh air/breezes, it appeared that they came in though the small holes in the screens. Needless to say, the fly swatter came in very handy "
