  • 1871 house

"And outstanding stay on Manhattan Island right near Central Park! An exemplary brownstone rowhouse, the 1871 took us right back to the New York days of Authors Henry James and O. Henry. What a delightful stay in a genuinely authentic townhouse. Each room we occupied reflected the era!"

  • WE LOVED EVERY MINUTE!

"My friends and I stayed in this amazing apartment for a week. We were hesitant at first to book the apartment, as it has no reviews, but we loved the apartment's look and location we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! It is even more beautiful than in the pictures, spacious, comfortable and the location is fantastic. We will definitely stay here again in the future!"

  • Yes, We would stay here again

"Okay, I have to admit I was a little nervous when we rented this place. The price seemed really good but I couldn't find any reviews about the property. So let me start by saying yes, I would rent this place again. The location is really superb. The room is about 200 square feet give or take. It has a decent size refrigerator in it a microwave and a couple of burners but we didn't use. There was a coffee maker which we used everyday. I was worried about where we would do laundry and if there was going to be enough room in the refrigerator and if we would be able to prepare any meals in the room. Although we didn't use any of them, there are Laundromats that are about a block the way on both sides of the street. There is also a number of wash and fold Laundromats that you might want to use. Another concert was if there would be affordable places to eat near the studio. There are a number of restaurants within one or two block radius that are reasonable. Some have lunch specials and others happy hour specials that we took advantage of. The majority of the meals we ended up eating where microwavable Trader Joe's meals that we purchased at Trader Joe's. I have to admit I was kind of surprised their meals are really tasty and easy to make. The unit also has plates and cups and Cutlery. As I mentioned earlier the room is fairly small and there is only one chair besides the bed just sit down on. Another thing worried about was where would we put our large suitcases. I had heard that there was a storage room downstairs you could use to store your suitcases. It ended up that there is also a table that has tall legs in the room so we were able to put both of the suitcases under the table for the duration of our trip. I had read that the bathroom was small. That is not an understatement when we got there the shower is fairly tight and it didn't have anywhere to put the soap or shampoo while you are showering, so we went out and bought a shower caddy and left it there for the next and future guests . There was plenty of warm hot water to shower with and the water pressure is decent. Truth be known you're not going to spend that much time in the room. Speaking of spending time in the room, there is freet Wi-Fi and the TV is nice to have. We brought our own Roku so that we would be able to stream TV the Wi-Fi has great bandwidth so we had no problems with streaming movies or TV shows. So again I would probably stay here again if I was coming to New York althoug"

  • Love 1871 House!

"Stayed at 1871 from 5/10 to 5/17.....such a wonderful place to stay when visiting NY. First off.....sleeping in NYC can be problematic.....this is a quiet neighborhood late at night. The location is terrific.....plenty of access to subway and walking to Central Park takes 10 minutes. Shopping is great..Bloomies is two blocks away. 1871 House is really quaint.....decor is charming (Parlor room has a kitchen closet, which comes in handy for sure).... I highly recommend this property.....if you want modern this is not your place.....but if you appreciate old New York and the neighborhoods, you'll love it."
