  • Nice stay. great for dogs. Little dated. Will return.

"I went up to beautiful Lake Nantahala for four days with my husband, son, and his friend. I wish that I would have brought my two little dogs. It is the perfect place for dogs. There is little traffic as it is nestled away on an almost private road. The location is convenient as it is close to the Lake's-End marina and restaurant. It sleeps about 12, including two sofas. The bed and bath are upstairs. The kitchen and half bath is downstairs. There is one working fireplace downstairs, and they provide the wood. We loved this. There are no decks, but there are large picture windows and a patio. It would be great if there was some vista pruning, but one can still see the lake pretty well. The place is clean but has a slight mildew odor in the upstairs area. There is no dishwasher and no wifi. Cell service was also not existent for our carrier. The neighbors oversee the place and are wonderful. They answered our questions and made sure that we had everything that we needed. They also rent their pontoon boat for a great price. It is a bit dated, but they are refurbishing it soon. It is a great deal at 165.00 per day plus paying for gas. We took the boat out and toured the entire lake. The boat owners are flexible and knowledgeable about the area. The dock is also a bit dated, but the owners are getting a new one soon. Two canoes, a flat bottom boat, a grill, all cooking utensils, etc. are included. Also, bedding, bath and beach towels are provided. This place provided a nice unplugged weekend. It was only 17 miles to Franklin, NC, where we ate at the food truck and tested samples at the Loafing Hiker Brewery, and 15 or so miles to Anderson. There is hiking everywhere. We spent most of the time pontooning and kayaking on our own kayaks. The marina rents paddle boards, kayaks, etc.. We will return."

  • Wonderful Relaxing Experience

"The animals are well cared for and not at all wild. The Conways are so helpful and friendly. Getting to feed and interact with the animals is like a refreshing touch of nature. The house is lovely and comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for. The peacock and Tom Turkey really preened for us and it was beautiful. The horses are beautiful and they have a lively colt that runs and romps across the meadows. We had a wonderful time. We even got a little snow - a real treat for Charlestonians to see."

  • Mountain vacay

"Our family of five just returned from a week spent in this beautiful cabin. The cabin is just as described in the VRBO posting. It is very clean and well stocked with everything you need. We loved the common area where we fished, tubed, and picnicked. The surrounding area is beautiful as well. We visited several waterfalls, the Wayah Bald fire tower (which has a spectacular view), Rufus Morgan Trail, and the towns of Highlands, Cashiers, Franklin, and Nantahala. Lake Nantahala is one of the prettiest lakes we have seen with it's emerald green water. We used the grill at the cabin to prepare several meals and also dined at Motor Co. Grill, which has great burgers! While in Franklin, we visited the town square, the gem museum, and the Franklin Historical Museum, all of which were very interesting. Overall, this was one of the best mountain vacations we have ever had. Our whole family agrees that we would happily return to River Bear Cabin and this area of North Carolina."
