  • Absolutely loved staying at River Haven/2016 Memorial Weekend

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: River Haven is a dream come true. If I had one wish,it would be stay there forever! Ideal location so much to see and do - close to Boone, Blowing Rock, Todd, West Jefferson, etc. Used cabin as central location for 4-day Memorial Weekend get-away. On Saturday we went to Hillsville, VA with our two friends and visited 5,000 antique vendors who set up their displays in the town twice a year - Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. At the cabin we all floated on inner tubes in the shallow New River and fished right outside of the house, had campfires at night and watch the lightning bugs illuminate the summer night, roasted marshmallows and made smores, played with the neighborhood dog, Duke, took morning and afternoon strolls down the neighborhood enjoying the beautifully decorated and landscaped cabins while enjoying the abundance of summer flowers, stargazed late into the night, had fresh roasted coffee and yummy Danish in the comfortable chairs on the cabin deck watching the sun slowly meaner over the morning fog, enjoying the abundance of birds happily chirping so early in the day. Took day trip to famous Shatley Springs for lunch, purchased squeaky cheese and fresh canned jams from the West Jefferson Cheese Factory, shopped in the many stores along main street, took winding road adventures down picturesque roads where we had no idea where we would end up at, came across a community school house Friday night in Fleetwood selling large flounder fish dinners with all the trimmings for only $11 a plate, shopped and visited lots of antique stores and believe it or not, did a lot of relaxing in the cabin with our friends as well All in all it was a perfect weekend. This was by far our favorite place to stay. Note We have used Carolina Mountain Vacation Rentals six or seven times in the past few years - they have always taken excellent care of us - even with a last minute request for a rental reservation. All the cabins have been"

  • "PEACE of Heaven"!

"We are in our 60s and have been coming to the Boone area all our lives and have rented many cabins there. This one is by far our favorite! Amazingly well built, tastefully decorated, and very well maintained. Everything you need is here---just bring your toiletries, food, and clothes. Jeff is very responsive and excellent to work with. My husband said this morning, "If you don't look at TV or get on the Internet, you can go and sit out on the back porch and truly believe that there isn't a thing wrong in this world." That's how peaceful it is. Thank you Jeff for sharing your little "PEACE of Heaven" with us! We will definitely be back! BTW, we DID like the "tree lighting"---adds just enough light to take the doggie for a walk after dark!"

  • Wonderful cabin

"We stayed for our 21st anniversary and the cabin was lovely. The bed was soft and slept great. We went in July so it was warm, would have been better if there was an air conditioner down stairs as well as upstairs. But the tree coverage kept out direct sun and it stayed cool enough. It is right on the road but with the trees all around it feels secluded. You can still hear the cars though. The porch is great and very relaxing. The hot tub was really a plus. We intended this to be a fishing vacation but unfortunately the lake(pond) and river were both too far for walking to. The river access had parking but the water was only ankle deep so not good for fishing. The fishing at the pond was ok but we didn't catch but one all day. May have been due to the people who's dogs were fetching balls in the water close to us. It is not exclusive to this rental. The hiking trails were grown up, not sure who maintains them and no place to park while you go on the trail. I would recommend this cabin for those wanting to relax but not so much for those wanting to do outdoor things."
