  • Large Group Getaway

"The Highlander Cabin was a great getaway location for my family. Between my husband and me and our 5 adult children, the house served us well in size, location, and activities for us to do together or alone. Because of our size, it was important for us to have a house that allowed everyone his/her own space, but also afforded us an area that we all could come together to eat and/or play games, etc. It was also nice to be able to cook on the premises vs going out every night since we had a budget by which to abide. The surrounding area offered many day trips, too. We will definitely look forward to returning to the Highlander in the near future!"

  • All-time favorite

"Our family of four has stayed in several cabins over the years in Tennessee and North Carolina. This home is our favorite. Everything promised in the description is accurate. The only details missing are that it's even nicer than it sounds. It is a great house, fabulous wrap around porch, very nice community, nice pool -- everything we wanted. The owners are helpful even going the extra mile of mailing a book that we left."

  • Great cabin

"This cabin was all we had hoped for and more. Two very comfortable bedrooms, two common areas, a large bathroom, fantastic kitchen, screened porch and a front porch. My father enjoyed the fire pit even though it was summer. It was nice to have the washer and dryer to use in preparation for the next week of vacation. The air conditioners were good to have when the weather was hot. The river access did not allow us to put in our kayaks but only because the river was low and our kayaks are not plastic. Otherwise, we could have easily put in there. We did take advantage of all the put-in places on Lake James for our kayaks but my favorite was the Hidden Cove boat launch area. The neighborhood dog was so sweet! He checked on us every day and liked everyone. There is a good movie selection in the cabin, games and puzzles. There is a porch swing on the screened porch that was very enjoyable. This is a great cabin, good location with friendly neighbors. We had two cars and plenty of parking."

  • Beautiful, clean, and relaxing

"The cabin was even better than we expected. Absolutely beautiful and very clean. The hot tub and waterfall were the best features and created a completely peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We have two kids (a 12-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl). They had a great time and enjoyed roasting marshmallows and cooking hotdogs over the fire pit. We enjoyed exploring the land surrounding the cabin and the peace and quiet, and especially the privacy of being surrounded by 9 acres. It is a little bit of a hike to get down to the lake from the cabin, but it wasn't too bad for us and we knew ahead of time that it would be, based on the description. The one and only thing that could have possibly made our stay just a tiny bit more enjoyable would be having a small dock at the cove to get the canoe and kayak out, and to fish off of. There are lots of things to do fairly close by and plenty of places to eat, though we ate most of our meals at the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most likely stay there again in the future!"
