  • First family (summer) vacation in the mountains

"Our family typically vacations at the beach in the summer and long weekend getaways in the mountains. However, this year we decided to change things up and have our summer vacation in the NC mountains. We have 2 children, a 9 yr old daughter & 7 yr old son. This makes our 3rd trip to Chimney Rock but our first time staying in Crimson Cottage. From the online reservation, I knew the upstairs game room would be a hit with the kids (and it was!). They loved having their own space and lots of games. I can't say enough good things about the cabin. It is spacious and feels like home. Plenty of hot water and A/C works great. It's nice that we could wash clothes in their modern W/D. The beds were very comfy and the location is fantastic. We loved being able to walk over the bridge and into town in less than 30 seconds! One of the kids' favorite things to do was take their shoes off and climb on the rocks at the River Walk in town. It's free entertainment for them and nice for dad and I to relax while they are exploring and enjoying the outdoors. We grilled out one night with the grill provided and had planned on making a fire in the pit to roast marshmallows but it was so very hot that we decided that would be a better thing to do in the fall. We had dinner our first night at Old Rock Cafe (we'd been there before). My husband had a cheeseburger and the rest of the week kept thinking about going back for another one, so we did on another night. We enjoy the outdoor seating and friendly staff at Old Rock. The management company was very professional, kind, and accommodating. We would love to stay at Crimson Cottage again the future. If you're researching and wondering if this cabin would be a good fit for your family, believe me, it is!"

  • Great cabin that exceeded our expectations.

"Our family had a great time in the cabin. Plenty of activities around the area if you can pull yourself away from the lake. We had a relaxing time and the accommodation set the tone."

  • Great Visit

"Nice stay, Nice cabin, I would recommend upgrading the Televisions with maybe 32 inch flat screens, only because the kids like to watch Tv at night time and the older models color and clarity is off. The fridge didn`t seem to stay cold enough for milk, minor issues, If I didn't have children I probably wouldn't have even notice these things. Other than that Great Visit, Owners seem really nice,I would recommend."

  • Comfortable condo by lovely Lake Lure

"My best friend, seven-year-old son and I stayed for three nights at Sallie and Alan's condo and had a great time. Sallie was very communicative and a pleasure to work with. We swam in the lake and the pool (which has a fun 'lazy river'), rented kayaks, took a boat trip around the lake (which includes the sites where 'Dirty Dancing' was filmed - you can rent the movie from the wellness center and watch it before you go!), ate a very nice dinner at the Lakeview restaurant and enormous, delicious ice-creams from the beachside cabana, and played mini-golf and other games. Having stopped at the nearby Ingles for supplies on the way to the condo, we didn't leave the resort the whole time! One thing we really liked about the Rumbling Bald resort is that all the facilities are close together, so you can park up in one place and walk between them. We also had access to them for the whole of the days we arrived and left, which was a bonus. The resort wasn't crowded during our stay. The condo itself was pleasant, with comfortable beds and effective A/C, which was important as it was HOT. Just a five-minute drive to the resort facilities. Neither the condo nor the resort are super-slick and modern, but that wasn't our priority. I was a little surprised to find that the screened porch had plexiglass windows, but it would have been too warm for us to sit out there without them anyway. The wifi was OK but cell reception quite poor for my network (Sprint). Lake Lure is a special place - swimming in the fresh water, surrounded by mountains, is an experience not to be missed. We hope to be back! Thank you Sallie and Alan for sharing your condo with us!"
