  • Great place to stay in a beautiful little town.

"The house is all you could ask for. It is far enough from Asheville to appreciate quiet time but close enough to see the places that you want to visit. I could have never left Black Mountain and been perfectly happy. The owner is great and extremely accommodating."

  • Fun at the Nest

"Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We spent three nights at the Byrd's Nest. My husband and I had the first floor Master. I would have preferred a king size bed but otherwise it had everything we needed. It has a rustic feel with all the wood trim but has the amenities of a newer home. Our two year old grand daughter and her parents had the upstairs where there are three bedrooms and one bathroom. It was perfect for them. It may have been crowded sharing the bathroom if more people had been there. The house had a very cute old time high chair that worked perfectly for the baby. I wish they had a Packnplay which would have saved us some space in packing in the car. There is a Mr. Coffee coffee maker with filters supplied. The house was well stocked with paper products and cleaning supplies. We didn't have time to use the hot tub but it looked great and the views off of the decks are very nice. I loved rocking in the porch swing and the rocking chairs. The living room space was perfect for us but again might be a little small for a large group of people. My granddaughter and I had fun counting all of the "birds" in the house although at first she was scared of them. The drive up the mountain to the house is a bit treacherous. I can't imagine doing it in the winter. If you go at night for the first time it might be a bit hard to find but I'm guessing most of the houses are that way. All in all, we enjoyed the Byrd's Nest and it met our needs. I would go back again."

  • The good along with the bad

"Our two families--comprised of four adults and five children--really loved the layout, location and situation of Hummingbird Pond. The pond provides hours of entertainment to children and the porch is a great social gathering point for everyone. Having said that, there is room for improvement, namely the house needs to be deep-cleaned when one group leaves and another enters, more than face-cleaning it currently receives: For example, the barbecue was so full of grease that we nearly had a fire the first night when we tried to use the grill; even though the porch is an open space, it was dirtier than it should have been and had clearly not seen a broom in months; the tablecloth on the kitchen table was filthy and needed to be changed; the screens on the screen door were broken, allowing bugs to come into the house, etc. In summary, even though this is the country, the house should be cleaned more thoroughly during each shift change, being that we all pay for that anyway. With these changes I would be very happy to stay again at Hummingbird Pond."
