  • Outstanding!

"The quietest property I have ever experienced! You feel like you have your own mountainside. You can't see another house only miles of distant mountains. The house is the best furnished VRBO I have ever rented. Worth every dollar spent. Black Mountain very close for shopping and dining. Pisgah brewing in Black Mtn is a very good brewpub with great entertainment and great beer!"

  • Very peaceful & beautiful foliage

"The Mountain Laurel house is a perfect getaway from the city life. It's surrounded by mountains and you will see lots of wild life. We vacationed there Nov 15th-18th and the foliage throughout the community was beautiful. We don't see the tree colors change in Florida, so that was a treat! The house is clean and stocked with all your needs. We went to dinner in neighboring town, Black Mountain? Hiked the Catawba Falls in the morning, which is really close by. We visited the beautiful Baltimore Estate for the Christmas evening tour, it was unreal and I highly suggest going anytime of the year. The winery there was fabulous!! Went to Asheville a few times (approx 35min drive), to join in on some of the brewery tours/tastings. Went to Grove Park Inn, and had lunch on the terrace, the views there are gorgeous! We would recommend the Mountain Laurel house and hope to be back for a visit one day. Happy Thanksgiving and Cheers, Crystal & Stephen (St. Petersburg, FL)"

  • Luxury AND Remoteness !!!

"My husband and I stayed at Winter Start Retreat the first week of October. We were blown away by the beauty of the property tucked away in the Black Mountains. Take the owners' word for it - You need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to SAFELY navigate the two or so miles of stoned road leading up to the property. The switchbacks have steep drop-offs that could do some serious damage, so it's not recommended to approach at night. (We've navigated Colorado mountain roads, so we have a point of reference). The home is nicely decorated, roomy and CLEAN. The kitchen suited our needs. We grilled steaks out on the grill, used the oven to bake potatoes, and cooked up bacon and eggs for breakfast on the stove. All appliances are fairly new and clean and worked well. There is every comfortable amenity you could ask for, except cell phone service. There is a landline for emergencies, so if you're ok with being "off-grid" and more than 30 minutes to cell service, then this is for you. If you're a TV freak, there's only one TV in the main living area and it is small. I must admit, it's been a while since we've just experienced nature without distractions, and it was WONDERFUL. We enjoyed the waterfalls just in back of the property, and had a nice evening fire at the fire pit on the secondary deck above the falls. Very peaceful and serene to watch the fire crackle with the sound of the waterfalls. We spent a couple of days hiking to the recommended points around the property (waterfall further up and mineral mine). Bring your hiking boots. Suggest getting more detailed directions to the mine as there are some forks in the trail not mentioned in the directions. The hot tub felt WONDERFUL after a long day of hiking and the indoor wood stove was cozy. We stayed a total of five days and spent a couple of them driving to nearby towns and to places along the Blue Ridge Parkway (Linville and Crabtree Falls). If you want to see good color in the Fall, recommend waiting until the second week of October. Burnsville doesn't offer much, except for an Ingles Supermarket which is HUGE & WONDERFUL. As the owners advise, you really need to stock up on food and your choice of drink before heading up to the mountain for the first time - nothing between Ingles and the cabin. The hosts were accommodating, knowledgable and informative. We only had the pleasure of meeting Sandy, and she was terrific...she and John rescue dogs, so that's speaks volumes. Highly recommend!!!"

  • The Perfect Setting For a Weekend Away

"I cannot write enough positive things about our amazing weekend at Almost Heaven. It was just the perfect setting for our girls getaway weekend--- so beautiful and peaceful. That VIEW! We couldn't get over it. It will take your breath away every time. Annette was SO wonderful in her communication, clear directions, and suggestions of things to see and do in the area. It is an intense (but kind of fun!) drive up the mountain roads to the home, but certainly doable, even though all of us just had front-wheel drive. Definitely recommend trying to get there in daylight if you can -- it's easier to find! But also know that the trek up the mountain is worth it for that view! Also definitely recommend doing your grocery shopping in your hometown or before you get the cabin and packing a cooler --- bring food and just stay put at the cabin. It would be quite a journey to have to "run to the store" for a small thing. We did get to explore Black Mountain for lunch (about 20-25 min drive) and enjoyed that! Also appreciated the suggested to check out Standing Rock Falls within the Gateway Mountain premises; it was lovely! The home was so accommodating and comfortable. We had 8 women staying, and all had a bed spot and plenty of space! We ate every meal and drank coffee/wine out on the amazing back deck. We watched the sunset and watch storms roll by. Once night came, we saw more stars than us city dwellers ever get to see--even some shooting stars! To say we had a great time is kind of an understatement. It was kind of perfect! .My only wish is that we could have stayed longer!!! Trying to see if I can now get my extended family to take a trip up to the mountains next year...might have to use this home again:) A beautiful rental, and one of the best VRBO home's I've ever stayed in. Highly recommend! Thank you to the Morgans for sharing their home!"
