  • Rented during potential hurricane (keep reading it is all good)

"My wife and I booked this house for 10/4 to 10/11 way in advance and opted out of the insurance for the trip as hurricane season is supposed to end October 1. Three days out from 10/4 it looked like Hurricane Joaquin was going to go right over the house. We made several calls to Heidi to see where our vacation stood and she was more than helpful. My wife and I feel there is no such thing as customer service anymore but that is clearly not the case when it comes to this rental. Heidi eased all our of anxiety about the vacation and also went above and beyond in assisting us with potential travel problems. She was even doing internet research during our travel day (I would not expect this always but we were trying to access the 4 WD area during exceptional circumstances). I was totally floored with attention to detail by the owners of this property!! The house is absolutely beautiful and the area is unbelievable. The house was very modern and clean and is set up in such a way that it provided maximum privacy for the renters (great privacy from landscaping). We drove to the location in the worst possible circumstances and access to the house was extremely easy, just follow the directions from the owners. Had a blast with the kayaks and easily caught 7 crabs in an afternoon while drinking beer on the private/secluded beach. If you rent, I recommend checking out the sunset by kayak from the bay area which is short paddle stroke away. Well worth the travel to 4wd area just know going in that you are looking for a laid back and private vacation!!! Thanks so much Heidi this was exactly what we needed! Hope you are still renting in the area in a couple years."

  • Perfect location, beautiful home, even the dogs had a blast!

"This was just a dream of a vacation.. everything about it was perfect! The home is much smaller than surrounding homes which was exactly what we wanted. It is located 'a dune away' from the beach, which is a nice walk. There is one house closer to the beach but not close to the Beach Box as far as privacy goes. There is a large home next door but even still it is not on the deck-side of the house, so it is still private. Perfect for couples or small families. The inside is just as pictured, clean and beautiful, lots of windows. The deck faces the ocean, although you can't see it because of the dunes, its still very private and nice to lay out in the sun. or enjoy the hot tub at night. We saw the wild horses everywhere, on the beach, right outside the house, etc. Lots of walking trails around the 'neighborhood'. We brought our two dogs, they loved the beach & exploring the beautiful area. To get to the house you must drive about 8 miles on the beach, you definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle and to let the air out of your tires. Even with 4 wheel drive we saw quite a few trucks and SUVs stuck in the sand, so just a warning. But being that far away from everything just adds to the peace and seclusion. We highly recommend this home. The owner, Heidi, was a pleasure to work with too :)"

  • WOW - that is the only word I can use to describe this place!

"Spent a week there with my family and it was wonderful. Just far enough away to get away from the touristy areas, but close enough that I was able to go and sight see around the area. Beach was amazing, loved seeing the horses daily. They were amazing!!!!! Been to Gatlinburg area about 10 times and have never seen a single bear. Was here for a week and there wasn't a day that the horses didn't make an appearance. The guys went fishing at high tide, and beach combing at low tide - found a lot of neat stuff. I think we could have brought home a truckload of shells!! Brought our kayaks and the guys went out on the sound in Duck while my daughter and I wandered around and went shopping. Perfect trade off! The 4WD Beach was fun also, loved the fact we could drive down and park with all our beach stuff, and then drive back. Didn't have to tote everything by hand and carry it all back. House was perfect for our small family plus our 2 dogs. Had everything we needed, plus if there was something we forgot all I had to do was look in a cabinet and there it was. And trust me... I was very thankful for the bottle of Aloe Vera we found as some of my family members decided that sun screen was gross and didn't want to use it.... BIG MISTAKE :) Only used the hot tub 1 time, but it was really nice! Very affordable and a lot of room for a small family. Again all I can say is WOW - we will be back!!!! Even with Tropical Storm/Depression Bonnie in the area, it was still a great stay!"

  • Perfect

"We are enjoying out stay here. It's the closest to the beach you can get in this area for this price. The decor could be a bit better (have a more beachy feel), and it smelled like smoke when we first got here, but nothing a little cleaner can't fix. The location is perfect. The managers have been awesome. The house isn't too small for my husband, 7 month old and I. We were surprised with how roomy everything feels. WiFi is spotty, but we aren't here to browse the internet, so I can't really complain about that. Overall, we definitely plan to return many times. Definitely our new vacation spot."
