  • Beach adventure awaits you.

"This was our first visit to the OBX area. I've been told by friends how wonderful the Carolina coast was. But they aren't the type of people who would actually drive 6.5 miles up the beach to get to the house. However I am an adventure seeking go getter. Absolutely loved the beach and everything this area had to offer. So thrilled I was able to give my family a vacation they will always remember. The house was very comfortable and had all the comforts of home. It was so nice to bring the whole family including our dog The beach was within walking distance which we did the first day. However we did drive to the beach several times just for the convenience of carrying beach gear. The house had plenty of beach chairs, boogie boards and beach toys. We saw wild horses in the yard and on the beach. We also saw dolphins in the early evening jumping in the ocean. I called the owner of the house to let them know the dishwasher wasn't working. They replaced it the very next day. Many thanks to them for going out of their way to make sure that everything thing was good. If you have the opportunity drive north a short distance on Ocean Pearl to visit the Carova Volunteer Fire Department. There you can get souvenirs and T-shirts to help support the fire department. I hope my review of the house and the area helps you."

  • Perfect location, beautiful home, even the dogs had a blast!

"This was just a dream of a vacation.. everything about it was perfect! The home is much smaller than surrounding homes which was exactly what we wanted. It is located 'a dune away' from the beach, which is a nice walk. There is one house closer to the beach but not close to the Beach Box as far as privacy goes. There is a large home next door but even still it is not on the deck-side of the house, so it is still private. Perfect for couples or small families. The inside is just as pictured, clean and beautiful, lots of windows. The deck faces the ocean, although you can't see it because of the dunes, its still very private and nice to lay out in the sun. or enjoy the hot tub at night. We saw the wild horses everywhere, on the beach, right outside the house, etc. Lots of walking trails around the 'neighborhood'. We brought our two dogs, they loved the beach & exploring the beautiful area. To get to the house you must drive about 8 miles on the beach, you definitely need a 4 wheel drive vehicle and to let the air out of your tires. Even with 4 wheel drive we saw quite a few trucks and SUVs stuck in the sand, so just a warning. But being that far away from everything just adds to the peace and seclusion. We highly recommend this home. The owner, Heidi, was a pleasure to work with too :)"

  • Lovely, rustic home, close to ocean.

"Myself, my husband and our two teenage girls spend a week at this rustic home on the outer banks. I would recommend it for those who want to be very close to the ocean and beautiful beach. We saw the horses multiple times everyday and two days saw dolphins just offshore which we had never seen before in previous visits to OBX. This is not a brand new house but has everything most people need for a great stay. It is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with basics which was a unusual treat for us in our history of renting. The upstairs deck has a view of the water and is lovely for a drink at the end of the day. You can literally walk to the beach in 2 minutes. The treated water system is like other homes we have been to (even the new ones), it sometimes has an odor but we used it for cleaning and used bottled water for drinking and coffee. The owner was very responsive to questions. If you love this area this is an affordable way for a smaller group to spend time in the 4x4 area of the Outer Banks. A truly unique and beautiful place in the world."

  • Repeat offenders

"This year was our third trip back to the "Sand Mix". The property works out great for us-not to far of a drive up the beach, close enough to the water, great views. Other than the horse tours coming by, there's next to no traffic to listen to. You're close enough to listen to the waves all the time, & with all the decks & the crows nest, the views are great. Hopefully we will continue to return to this house for many trips to come!"
