  • A beautiful, classic home

"The Saltaire is a beautiful home with all the amenities you could ask for. The property is gorgeous, spacious, and very comfortable The owners were very responsive to any inquiries I had and were very accommodating to us during our stay. I would absolutely recommend this property for a relaxing weekend in Duck. It is in walking distance of restaurants and shops, so you do not ever need to get in the car once you arrive. We enjoyed going to the Duck Deli for breakfast (located right next door.) All in all, the weekend was a pleasure and certainly will be one to remember fondly."

  • Great value for the money

"Actually our stay deserves 4 1/2 stars. This roomy house, situated on a quiet tree lined street, was spotless when we arrived, is only a 1/2 block from the ocean, w/4 bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths and an especially convenient outdoor shower. Also a screened in porch for outdoor meals. Anyone can be quite comfortable. The kitchen is cheerful and modern and we brought every type of food item we could think of which all fit nicely into the refrigerator. There was a good supply of dishes, glasses, barware, and eating utensils. Additionally, the house was well stocked with cookware. However, the owner should have advised us to bring extra paper towels and bathroom tissue (we had 4 little kids with us). It's a long ride to Harris Teeter to pick up these things. We brought charcoal to use the Weber kettle but the one at the house had a broken lid and rusty grills. It is time for a new one. We still managed, however, to cook our steaks outdoors. All in all, if you are looking for a four bedroom house I think "The Simple Life" is great value for the amount you will be spending. Our vacation was great."

  • Delightful, well-kept, comfortable cottage!

"Our family truly loved our stay in this house. It's only a short stroll to the beach, where we spent most of our time, but we wouldn't have been sad if there had been bad weather days, because the cottage is so welcoming and well-organized. It has a top-floor deck for watching the thousands of stars and the Milky Way at night, a screened-in porch for reading and drinking tea outside without getting sunburned (or wet, if it's raining), and a ping-pong table under the house on the garden level, to play at the end of the day. We did all of the above! The house is on a quiet street, and we slept peacefully at night--hard to believe it was the busy month of August! It's an easy walk to the Sound side, too, where we all walked one evening to watch the herons, geese, and sunset. The owners have furnished the house with many thoughtful touches. There are lovely paintings and photographs (much of it the work of the owner, I believe) on the walls, and lots of beach treasures to admire inside and out. It's obviously a well-loved house. We were thrilled to find beach chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards there so we didn't have to pack our own. And we could see the house is supplied with lots of other beach equipment, too, geared toward children younger than our two. The owner kindly gave us tips about local sights and services and responded to questions both before and during our stay. But because we were enjoying the beach and the house so much, we didn't make many shopping trips: an afternoon to stock up at the Food Lion; a couple of morning runs to Tommy's Market for pastry; and Scarborough Faire for the wonderful Island Bookstore and shops, none of these very far away. We were all sorry to leave and are already discussing when to return!"

  • Perfect for a Girls Weekend Getaway

"I booked this place for a weekend getaway for a group of girls in our early 30s. The house was perfect - the pictures actually don't reflect how cozy and updated this place is. The kitchen has been redone and there appears to be new carpet. The beach was a short walk away, so we spent most of our time there, but we also enjoyed the large upper deck at night because you can see so many stars! The beach is great - private access so you're not competing for space with a bunch of other people. You're super close to the shops and restaurants in Duck, so it was easy to explore outside of the beach area as well - highly recommend Aqua, Roadside Bar & Grill, and Duck Donuts! Check in/out was easy and the host was super accessible when needed. Property was very tidy and well-maintained. Overall, we loved our time here and would re-book in an instant!"
