  • Clean and comfy!

"This was perfect for us. We are a family of four with a 1 1/2 year old and a 4 year old. We actually put the baby in the master bedroom so that he could have a quiet room away from us, and we slept in the double bed in what I'd call the "kid" room while our 4 year old gladly took the top of the bunk bed in the same room. We really enjoyed both the screened in porch and the back porch, where we were able to see so many stars. You can't get a view like that in the city! The house was very clean and although no one chooses a cottage based on decor, I did notice and appreciate that while there were nice nautical touches, the placed didn't look like the inside of a Wings store blew up in there like some cottages do. Someone is very handy and there were some nice woodwork items. We had brought toys for our kids, but they were elated to find a stocked toy closet there. The outdoor shower after the beach was very helpful. We have already discussed returning to this cottage again!"

  • Perfect Fishing Trip getaway!

"This is the 4th year that we have stayed in the house for our annual guys fishing trip. We keep coming back because its perfect. The kitchen has everything we need for cooking our meals and the pool table keeps occupied when we aren't fishing. The house is always clean and Peter does a wonderful job of communicating!"

  • Our third visit

"We've rented Kapt'n Kelly's three times now and have always received prompt and helpful service from the manager; enjoyed a nice, comfy, well-appointed house; and had a good visit in the most pet-friendly accommodation we have rented. The house is nicely arranged, with living space and kitchen and a beautiful view of the sound from the upper deck, all upstairs. The bedrooms are downstairs and offer a quiet place to rest, read, and sleep. The decks are fabulous - the lower one that wraps around on three sides and allows access to the sound in back as well as including a large and well-furnished screen room; and the upper one off the living room that looks over the sound and gives you wonderful views of boats, fishing birds, and sunsets. The kitchen is well-appointed with good cookware, dishes, and appliances. The neighborhood is quiet and very well suited to walking dogs (we bring three). The bedrooms and bathrooms are nicely arranged, and the beds are comfortable. Linens are provided so all we had to bring were our bath and beach towels, which was a plus. Unlike several houses we have rented through realty agencies, this one (managed by Shore Details) came with a starter pack that included four rolls of toilet paper, one packet of dishwasher detergent, a small bottle of dish soap and a sponge/scrubber, and a roll of paper towels - so if you arrive later in the day, you are not having to stop and shop on the way for those essentials. We had a maintenance issue we needed resolved - we called Shore Details on Friday morning about it and it was taken care of within a few hours. They were so quiet and efficient that we did not even know they had come and gone. We've always had good service with the manager and were pleased with the service by the maintenance company. Our primary wish would be that there were screen doors on the sliders that lead to the two bedrooms that abut the screened porch because the screening on the porch is a bit worn and does not keep out the mosquitoes as well as it should (or the occasional squirrel!). So we could not sleep with the slider door open at night to enjoy the sea breezes or keep the slider open during the day when we were resting to enjoy the sounds of the soundside. The location is great - easy access to Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras, and local attractions and resources like Orange Blossom, Conners, Equine Adventures, Dutch Bonnet, Billy Mitchell Airfield, Quarterdeck, beach access points, and many more."

  • Suited us perfectly

"Great porch overlooking the canal. The kayaks were great for paddling out into the sound and viewing the sunset! Kitchen was stocked with all necessary cooking utensils."
