  • Wonderful house

"Rented this house because loved the location and amenities of the home. We liked having 2 living areas so the kids could have there space and we could have ours. The pool was fun to have in case we were tired of going to the beach but just wanted to cool off and play. The pool table was great in the evening or if we just wanted to relax and watch the kids play (also gave them the opportunity to learn to play). Having bunk beds is a plus because my 3 boys like to be in the same room together. The only complaint I have were the dishes. The seashell plates were very pretty but they are not dishwasher safe(hand wash only) and the dinner plate doesn't fit in the microwave. The melamine plates were great for the kids but not recommended for the microwave or dishwasher. The location of the house was very convenient to different activities and sites. We were minutes away from the Wright Brothers Memorial (can see it from the balcony) and many water activities (kayak, surf, etc). There are 3 lighthouses as close a 1/2 hr to 90 min depending on how far you wanted to explore. And the beach was a few blocks away. Would definitely stay here again! Thanks Janet!"

  • Perfect Beach House For Family Trip!

"This beach house was perfect for our 3 generation family beach trip! The house is 3 levels with plenty of space for everybody and wonderful porches and decks all over the place. We spent most of our time on the back deck overlooking the beach. It was nice to be able to sit and have a cocktail and still keep an eye on the kids playing in the sand. The kitchen is small but has everything you could possibly need for cooking large meals plus a large ice maker that kept up well with our crowd. The house was built in the 1930's and has aged well. We loved the character of the home and could tell Katherine and her husband put a lot of love into it over the years. We would definitely stay there again next time we're down in the Outer Banks!"

  • Luxury vacation rental at a reasonable price

"My husband and I had been looking for a "luxury" vacation rental option in the OBX, and found this charming studio suite. A HOME RUN! The studio is spacious, exceptionally clean, comfortable, and has all of the amenities needed for a relaxed week or weekend stay. We were there for the extended Thanksgiving weekend, and were very pleased. The location is convenient to everything and easy to find (3 blocks behind the Dunkin Donuts and Henry's Restaurant (MP 5.5), so you don't have to fight too much traffic after crossing the bridge into the OBX. The queen bed was very comfortable (firm but not too much). It's sitting somewhat tight against one wall, but not a big problem. Kitchen area is sufficient -- drip coffee maker & filters (bring your own coffee), toaster, BIG microwave. There's a dormitory-size fridge sitting on the floor (not so good for those of us with bad backs), but it works well and the 2 ice trays made plenty of ice for us (in November). There's a large dining table and 4 chairs outfitted with beachy aqua cushions and dishes (place settings for 4). The kitchen area includes a few coffee mugs, 2 wine glasses, and a few casual plastic cups. Basic but sufficient. Owners provided a roll of paper towels, dish detergent, a few cleaning supplies, and a couple more nice-to-have items. The bathroom is very spacious, and the shower is actually big enough for 2. There were a few extra rolls of bath tissue and a (new) box of tissues, along with an assortment of hotel-size soaps, etc. As instructed, we arrived with our own bedding (queen sheets, blanket, pillows, comforter) and our own towels, but saw that the owners had provided a selection of fluffy towels and washcloths in a cabinet in the bathroom. There's not a lot of shelf/sink/counter space in the bathroom for your toiletries, makeup, and "stuff". Living room area is separated from bedroom area by a folding panel screen, and has a cushy, sink-into-comfort full-size sofa and one of those curious-but-comfortable chair-and-a-half with a big ottoman -- perfect for reading and napping and TV. The 32-inch wall-mounted TV in the living room has cable and a reasonable selection of channels, but is NOT big enough (or angled) to watch while in bed. Bring your own DVD player & DVDs. No clocks anywhere (which may be a good thing!). Two outdoor adirondack-style chairs & a hammock-style hanging chair are on the patio outside the door. Overall, WELL worth the cost. We will return!"

  • Wonderful Family Trip!

"The Flying Monkey was a wonderful place to stay. It was one of the cleanest rentals that we have ever had! Thanks so much for that. The location suited our purposes perfectly. We were on a biking trip for my husband's birthday. We were close to the biking paths and were able to bike to the Wright Brothers Memorial with no problem. The beach was a quick walk away and restaurants were fabulous (Kill Devil Hills Grill, Tortugas Lie, I Got Your Crabs and Slice Pizzeria). We also were able to prepare breakfast with the use of the fully stocked kitchen. The separate master bedroom allows privacy and the house is just immaculate. Brian did a superb job setting up this rental for convenience. We would definitely stay at the Flying Monkey again."
