  • Great location, nice views

"We loved this house...less than 1 block from beach with easy access. Quiet with nature area in back (and walking trail around it). Glad to not be on busy and noisy Ocean Blvd. Great size for our family of 7...lots of porches with nice furniture. Remodeled bathrooms. Comfy beds and living room... we'll be back! Eat at provision company and be sure to do a day trip to Seaport. Rob is very responsive to emails when inquiring."

  • Relaxing, comfortable, and clean house! Fun had by all!

"After both seeing the outside and touring the inside of Shrimp N' Grits, we booked the house for our July family vacation. There are five in our immediate family, plus my father, and several of my kids' friends who tagged along with us for the week. After reading the negative review below, we were worried about what we would find when we arrived for our traditional week at the beach. What we found was a wonderfully laid-out, family-oriented, comfortable home that was neat and clean. While it is not a brand-new home, it has been renovated and kept up-to-date -- it even has hardwood floors! The views from and location of the house on the second row are perfect. We loved that it was on the more quiet and less populated (=less traffic!) side of Holden Beach. Based on the very reasonable price, we knew it would not be the Ritz, realistically expecting and desiring an "it's okay to sit around in your bathing suit" type of home. In short, we were comfortable having fun at this house -- eating as a family on the back porch in the evenings, drinking coffee on the front porch in the mornings, swinging on the downstairs porch swing in the afternoons. It was a very short across-the-street walk to the beach. We rode rented bikes, put our fishing boat in the intracoastal waterway at the end of the street, ate at the local restaurants, played Putt Putt, walked on the beach at night, got in a little shopping here and there, rented jet skis one day, went to an outdoors concert on Sunday, and walked and walked on the beautiful beach. Shrimp N'Grits was the headquarters for all these wonderful and memory-making events. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously and plan on booking again for next year. Our family agreed the house is exactly as advertised: "Family Retreat" at the beach!"

  • Lovely week at beach

"My family and I had a wonderful stay on Holden Beach. Each year we try a different coastal area looking for our forever vacation spot. We usually travel with 6-7 adults and 2 toddlers. Dockside Dreaming worked for our needs. Here are our Thoughts. PROS: The best part of DD is the location. It's right across the street from the beach (and the room my husband and I slept in had a small ocean view). We loved being on the canal. We fished and crabbed right from the dock. We also had a chance to chat with our neighbors. The walk to the beach was very doable with kids and it really was the best part. Another positive is dealing with the Youngs (the owners). They were very easy to deal with and so nice to rent from. The cost of the rental was very nice. We appreciated being able to be so close to the beach at a very affordable rate. Cons: The cons aren't a huge deal just some observations but they wouldn't prevent us from renting DD again. The house needs some TLC. As others have mentioned it shows its age. There is quite a bit of construction happening on the island so soon it be more obvious. But everything works technically so again not a reason to not rent. There's a weekly cleaning that happens but the house could use maybe a monthly deep clean. I have a hard time with dust and there was quite a bit in weird places like on the wicker beds (it's pretty thick by the end of July). I had to take allergy meds to help. The Youngs provide quite a bit (we were very happy with the Weber Grill since we have 2 at home) but the cabinets were FILLED with dishes, glasses and appliances. As a personal chef I tend to travel with my own seasonings, tools (including pots) and food and unfortunately there wasn't much space for us to put things away. So if you rent try to limit the stuff you bring for the kitchen. All in all Our week was nice. I liked it enough to want to return. One day when I have a boat 😀򐀠And dockside dreaming is a great value for the price. And I'm already thinking of next years vacation."

  • On the Beach!

"The BEST part is the location. You are literally living on a fabulous, almost semi-private beach. Our family of six adults, four kids and one infant was very comfortable. The access road to this part of the island has low traffic. The house was clean, carpeted throughout, well furnished, and had a "homey feel." Thanks for helping us have a wonderful vacation."
