  • Phenomenal - completely what you need.

"This is our second time here. We stayed for two nights in April and it felt like time stood still. We saw that it was available the week before school started so we went for it. It's even better when you stay for a week. Max, the owner, responds quickly. When we stayed the first time we went to use the washer and it has a "sensings delay" and I was worried it was broken, but it was late and even though I wasn't expecting a response, Max was right there to let us know. The washer started right up and worked fine. I would recommend this place for anyone that just wants to disconnect and relax. Absolutely perfect."

  • Relaxing, comfortable, and clean house! Fun had by all!

"After both seeing the outside and touring the inside of Shrimp N' Grits, we booked the house for our July family vacation. There are five in our immediate family, plus my father, and several of my kids' friends who tagged along with us for the week. After reading the negative review below, we were worried about what we would find when we arrived for our traditional week at the beach. What we found was a wonderfully laid-out, family-oriented, comfortable home that was neat and clean. While it is not a brand-new home, it has been renovated and kept up-to-date -- it even has hardwood floors! The views from and location of the house on the second row are perfect. We loved that it was on the more quiet and less populated (=less traffic!) side of Holden Beach. Based on the very reasonable price, we knew it would not be the Ritz, realistically expecting and desiring an "it's okay to sit around in your bathing suit" type of home. In short, we were comfortable having fun at this house -- eating as a family on the back porch in the evenings, drinking coffee on the front porch in the mornings, swinging on the downstairs porch swing in the afternoons. It was a very short across-the-street walk to the beach. We rode rented bikes, put our fishing boat in the intracoastal waterway at the end of the street, ate at the local restaurants, played Putt Putt, walked on the beach at night, got in a little shopping here and there, rented jet skis one day, went to an outdoors concert on Sunday, and walked and walked on the beautiful beach. Shrimp N'Grits was the headquarters for all these wonderful and memory-making events. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously and plan on booking again for next year. Our family agreed the house is exactly as advertised: "Family Retreat" at the beach!"

  • Good week

"We loved the size and layout of the house and the location is wonderful. The beach area is large and not crowded. Outdoor shower was a hit, and the shower hose on the pier was really nice for sandy feet. Nice to have the marsh across the street to look at, and some of our boys took a hike through it. The kitchen is very well equipped for any kind of meal, we ate at the house every day and night. We had 4 children, ages 4 - 11 and there was plenty of room for all. The downstairs floor is made of non skid material which is great for an ocean front house. Loved that the 3 upstairs bedrooms faced the ocean and had a balcony. All rooms were clean. The only negative comments I have: we had a little trouble keeping the house cool. One day it reached 84 degrees inside. I realize that the constant opening of the door to the porch affects AC efficiency, we did our best to keep it closed, but it was difficult to bring the temp down a couple of days. The carpets in the downstairs rooms seemed a little musty from dampness, also difficult to control in a beach house. I would recommend the house, we had a great time."

  • The WAVE - Stunning Place

"The Wave is a wonderful place to stay. This is our second time to stay at this place and we will definitely book again. They say location is everything and this place is located right on the ocean and it an easy walk to the beach. They pool is beautiful and very clean, in fact the whole house was very clean and had everything we needed to make our vacation terrific. This trip we saw baby turtles making their exit to the ocean, this was very exciting for us adults, but our grandchildren were in AWWW!!!! Also, the owner, Kimberly, was wonderful to work with and was always available for my calls. This is the place to go and relax and enjoy the beach!!!!!"
