"After staying in 3-bedroom condos for several years, my extended family decided this was the year to rent a house. We had simply grown too large with six adults and three kids to have anything close to a relaxing vacation in cramped quarters. Plus, the kids are now teen and pre-teens who need some space of their own.
Six on the Beach was perfect for that. Three bedrooms with queen beds allowed each adult couple to have their own private bedroom. The bunk bedroom gave the kids their space. The dining area fit the adults at the table and the kids at the bar pretty well. There isn't space for everyone to come together in the living room but that was never a problem. We were able to spread out in the living room, the main deck, the upper deck, the widow's walk and the loft area. Space is not a problem.
The beach is fairly easy walk. The access on 2nd Street has stairs at the beach side so be aware you're going to carry your carts for that. The pier is a couple blocks over as is a couple small shops and ice cream. If you're looking for close by restaurants, you won't find them on the island. There a couple of places but most of the restaurants will be a 10 to 20 minute drive to the mainland or Calabash.
Communications and service from the owner were a breeze. Very responsive and courteous. Easily one of the best owners I've interacting with for vacation rentals.
I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunset Beach vacation and highly recommend the location and Six on the Beach. A list of activities and attractions will inevitably miss something but I will recommend the Bird Island Walking Tour, the Sunset Beach Turtle Watch, Boundary House restaurant in Calabash, the USS North Carolina if you can take a day trip to Wilmington, the Sunset Beach Waterfront Market on Thursdays, and Sunset Beach Trading. Walk to Kindred Spirit mailbox and watch the sunset over the marsh. After writing this, I'm so ready to go back."
