  • Just as good the second time around

"This was our second ladies mini vacation, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Melanie and Terry are great owners, and their home has all you need for a great stay. The decks facing the ocean afford a great view and when not on the beach, we were quite comfy on the deck. There is great storage for beach chairs and floats (and chairs are provided). There is an enclosed private outdoor shower with hot/cold water--great for showering after riding waves. The beds are comfortable, and there is plenty of room for all to have seating for tv or movies. We cooked our meals and had all we needed in the spacious kitchen. I see a return trip in our future. Thanks to Melanie and Terry for making others so welcome to their home."

  • Lovely stay!

"We are just back from seven nights at this property and had a wonderful trip. The property is in a great location--it is just a walk along the beach from Surf City Pier, a short walk from a great coffee/donut shop (The Daily Grind) and also close the a top-rated NC spa (Inis Spa). We loved the ability to take advantage of local attractions without having to load up in the car. A highlight for my kids was the Surf City Fire Department, just across the street a bit from the house. My sons (4 and 3) loved seeing the fire trucks, and on one morning one of the men from the fire department saw us walk by and was nice enough to come out and approach us with firefighter hats for the kids. They also loved Soundside Park (though we did have to drive to that one). The beach here is great. Very clean and well-patrolled--we saw town workers on the beach each day, regularly emptying public trash receptacles and patrolling. We found the residents of the area to be very friendly, often saying hello or chatting with our kids on the way by. From the top level of the home the ocean views are almost surreal. We loved watching the ocean from the kitchen/dining room/living room. On our first morning we were sitting down for breakfast and quickly noticed dolphins out in the water--we were fortunate enough to see them several more times as well! We also saw a few large groups of pelicans and the kids loved watching them dive in and out of the water. The house itself is spacious and allows for both privacy and togetherness. The kitchen is well-equipped and made cooking for our group a breeze. The stand alone ice maker is a great addition to the kitchen. We also appreciated the washer and dryer very much. The only (very minor) nuisance for us was some splinters walking on and off the beach--the stairs are a little weathered, so make sure you bring flip flops to wear as you walk to and from the beach. Overall we were very happy with our stay here and all agreed we would love to re-visit Paradise Revisited!"

  • Beautiful and relaxing

"Right on the beach, just what we wanted! The beach was peaceful and not crowded. We saw dolphins almost everyday. The kids chased and caught crabs and the shells are everywhere! The water was always warm :) Excellent views from three rooms of the house, plenty of room for everyone. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back!"

  • HERE WE GO AGAIN -11 YEARS IN A ROW

"I keep thinking I should do this, so here goes. This is the eleventh year we have rented Slowdance. We will be there on May 14 this year and back again in September. Yes we rent it twice a year spring and fall. That should be enough for any "Doubting Thomas" If it wasn't the best vacation spot, with the best property, that I have found I wouldn't keep going back. We tried the Outer Banks and were not impressed. We have been to Jekyll Island in Georgia and it was OK, but driving from PA was a task and being oceanfront is not really oceanfront - there was always a walk. Our children are grown, but they have both been with us at Slowdance, and now I have to make my arrangements around their schedules - they have threatened to cut me out of their wills. Enough of our history. We have never been disappointed. The property was always clean and well maintained - not like many others. The pictures are true - what you see is what you get. We have had a few instances where work had to be done - one year the upstairs air went out -but the owner had someone on it the next day. It was a major repair as the entire unit had to be replaced and the job was completed while we were still there. That was an expensive fix and it was done promptly with no interruption to our vacation. Last September we were there during the storm. It got pretty rough - the entire set of steps to the beach was washed away. The storm was bad enough it took down a house toward the southern end of the island.. When I called the owner and told her she offered us another property if we didn't feel safe staying there, but we were comfortable with the house and stayed. The steps were repaired before we left, which was pretty impressive considering the damage done to all the properties on the island. The owner is a terrific lady. . She is most accommodating and will work with you to make your stay as pleasurable as possible."
