  • Enjoy the REAL flavor of the lake!

"It's with some hesitation that I write this review. You know how you happen upon something that you feel is a treasure, share it with others, and word spreads, then YOU suddenly have limited access to "YOUR" find? I don't want that to happen with this sweet lake house; however, it's not fair to the fantastic owners to not let others in on the secret. This was our second time staying in this lake house. Here's the deal: This is one of the older homes on the lake (we LOVE that), so it offers that wonderful campy feel. There are NO steps from your car to the back door; however, as with all the houses, there are stairs down to the lake and (NEW) dock. The front porch, overlooking the lake and mountains, has got to be one of the best. It offers a place to dine, ample seating, a gas fireplace/stove, and a great place to sleep. It's where we spent most of our time on both visits, and where we always ate when not out on the lake. The kitchen is well-stocked, though no dishwasher (typical of these lake houses) and offers a large eating area. The living room is bright with two sets of sliding glass doors looking out to the screened porch. Despite being heavily shaded, the house is bright. The heavy shade and being on the lake result in humidity in the house, but it's not anything you can't deal with. Due to the one bath situation, you'd probably want to stay here only with those with whom you're rather close. :) This is the perfect place to really get away. Cell phone reception is extremely limited, but there is wi-fi at the house. We don't know about the satellite/cable situation. We only turned on the television one evening to watch one of the movies in the collection. Restaurants are limited in the area. We preferred to cook at the house almost every night. Also, this is a "dry" county. You'll have to drive quite a way to purchase alcohol, so bring it with you. You're entrenched in nature here and on a lake, so enjoy it! The owners are truly great! Both times they got back with us immediately. We had no problems during either stay, but I feel that they would have been very responsive. And both times they welcomed our dogs. All in all, this is THE BEST deal on Lake Santeetlah. Now you're in on the secret."

  • Awesome little secuded in the hills!

"Our family stayed at this cabin this week. When we arrived, the cabin was clean. They provide everything you could possible need, fresh linens, fully stocked kitchen with newer appliances (including a dishwasher), and a mini fridge sink, microwave, and toaster in the downstairs master suite! The beds were VERY COMFORTABLE! They might have been the best beds we have ever slept in away from home! They provide bird food and corn for feeders located around the decks, and it was interesting watching the birds and squirrels in the morning! The cabin is high enough up the hill to feel very private, even though there are other cabins nearby. We could only see one, through the trees below us, and we couldn't see much, just a little light and the color of a car parked there. We brought our motorcycle to take a few rides while we were here. There is enough room to trailer in, as long as your trailer is small, and you can unhook and walk it around to turn around (there isn't quite enough room to turn it around at the cabin). Yes, the road up is steep, and perhaps a little scary the first time, but it's not horrible. I was a little worried about riding the bike down and up the road to the cabin, but my worries were unfounded. I think it was easier than driving the truck up. We only rode a few hundred miles through the mountains (our teenage kids were with us, so we didn't think it fair to leave them for long), but this is some beautiful riding! I can't imagine much prettier except for some of those bucket list place like the Pacific Coast Highway. We were looking for a place, away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but close enough to the Smoky Mountains National Park to make day trips. This location perfectly fit the bill. We took day trips into the park to Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome, and many other parts of the park. We grabbed meals in Townsend, Bryson City, and Cherokee, and was happy with each meal (check tripadvisor for the highest ranked places). We also prepared several meals in the cabin, especially breakfasts, but also used the provided grill to prepare steaks and burgers! If were return to the Smokies, we would definitely book this place again."

  • Fantastic Place!

"I spent a long weekend with friends from across the country! It was perfect. It is a beautiful setting with easy access to towns and outdoor adventures. The house is well done, in terms of design, materials and comfort. There is a large porch to hang out and enjoy the mountain views and stars at night. I would highly recommend this home for rental. Great place for friends and family gatherings!"
