  • Reluctant to Share this Gem

"We have visited this wonderful home six times in seven years and it never disappoints. Allyson and Brian are the most accommodating owners you will find. This charming cottage location is on a large lot with side creek. It is perhaps the best in Bear Lake since it is mostly level and near the gated entry and Greeters Cottage. Your wooded view from the back screened and covered porch is a delight. We rock, dine and enjoy the fireplace outside throughout the visit. You are 15-20 minutes from Sylva for shopping and supplies but feel a world away. The private 5 mile mountain drive to the uncrowded and magnificent lakeside clubhouse and pool is both scenic and relaxing. You cannot imagine how excellent it is even from the pictures. Overlooking Bear Creek Lake is simply beautiful. Our only reservation is sharing this hidden gem with others, preferring to keep the secret to ourselves."

  • A most unique experience that our family wants to repeat in the future!

"Our family spends a week each summer in the North Carolina mountains to escape the Florida heat, this year during the week of August 20th. We have enjoyed staying in the Cashiers/Highlands area, our favorite location in NC, for the past three years. What a unique experience having your very own private waterfall in your backyard! We are used to driving a half hour then hiking another hour or so to have a picnic at a waterfall. We were intrigued the very moment we saw and heard the waterfall when we arrived. Spacious deck areas and walkways surrounding the waterfall and adjacent creek are located from each bedroom and the den area. Situated at an elevation around 4000 ft, we were cool for our entire stay with highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s/50s. Overall, the waterfall, creek area and surrounding grounds are immaculate and well maintained. We absolutely loved the experience and couldn't get enough of the sights and sounds of the falling water and rushing creek. The kitchen is very well equipped and recently remodeled with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, etc. Wifi worked well as did Directv. There is no cell phone availability, but a landline phone is provided. The bedrooms/bathrooms are also attractive, comfortable and well furnished. The den area is spacious with a beautiful stone fireplace and also recently remodeled with hardwood floors and walls, giving the appearance of the idyllic mountain cabin. In summary, we experienced one of the most memorable weeks ever in the North Carolina mountains! Needless to say, we plan to go back again - many times!"

  • Late summer vacation

"We recently spent nearly 2 weeks at this lovely lakeside property. Easily accommodated 6 adults. We enjoyed grilling out and eating and relaxing on the large covered back porch. Lots of nearby shopping and scenic sights to experience. The back porch setting is elevated like being in a treehouse - lovely and serene. No bear sightings, but lots of hummingbirds in the trees. Great location for some mountain R & R!"

  • Wonderful July Stay at 4500 feet

"Our second time visiting Young at Heart. The views are breathtaking, the cabin clean and inviting and the owner solicitous and concerned about our experience. A wonderful location to get away from the heat and find some tranquility."
