  • Purple and Gold

"We stayed at Bare Necessities the weekend of our son's graduation from Western Carolina University. The purple and gold colors of WCU were on display on campus and at sunset from the deck of Bare Necessities. You cannot capture the long-range views in a photo. We could still see the snow atop Clingman's Dome over 30 miles away. The hot tub was a welcome retreat after a couple of busy days packing up a moving van and attending the graduation festivities. The cabin comfortably slept 5 adults with an air mattress we took with us. The upstairs shower had a tough time keeping water pressure when someone was in the shower downstairs but we just staggered our bathroom visits to accommodate. There are so many outdoor activities in the surrounding area but my favorite was driving up Barker's Creek Rd, turning onto Beech Tree Rd and driving until it turns into a National Forestry dirt road. This drive is quintessential Western Carolina with family farms, mountain views and beautiful creeks. We fished for native trout in the middle fork of Barker's Creek and hardly noticed the hour that waned away in the middle of a hectic weekend. We can't wait to return in the fall."

  • When can we move in?

"As soon as we walked in the door, we were ready to move in! We were there celebrating our father's 80th and sister's 55th birthdays. No one wanted to leave on our last day. It's a beautiful home and plenty of room for 6 adults. The floor plan is awesome and no matter what room you were in, it felt very spacious with the high ceilings both upstairs and downstairs. The double decks had plenty of room, easy to spread out and not be on top of each other. The themed décor throughout the house was exceptional, the kitchen and bathrooms were well furnished and the beds very comfortable. The downstairs was perfect with the kitchenette, fireplace, pool table, TV and even a karaoke machine! Jerry and his wife (the property managers) were so gracious with their time in walking me through everything, providing suggestions for things to do in the area and were very responsive if I called with questions. It truly felt like 'home'! The only suggestion we would make is to consider placing more stable seating around the fire pit. Although the wood furniture is perfect for the theme of the house, the weather (or perhaps age of it) seems like it's taken a toll on some of the pieces where they were broken or somewhat unstable to sit in. Overall, we loved the house and definitely look forward to coming back!"

  • A place where you can actually breathe

"I've brought my wife and two little boys here three times now and the four of us are always so sad to leave. Every time you visit you'll notice something you didn't see the last time (place is loaded with unique decorations). My boys always go straight for the stick horses, cowboy hat, toy pop gun etc. The place is always clean, fresh mountain air, fully stocked with pots pans and dishes, movies for the kids, I could go on about it but you'd just have to see for yourself."

  • Very nice!

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We rented this house for our ski trip to Cataloochee. The house is very conveniently located in the center of Maggie Valley, very close to the ski resort. It's also close to the major road and about 40 mins away from Ashville. It has a large fenced yard and offers a lot of privacy. The three bedrooms are good sized. The house is clean, however, it stored a lot stuff in the closet and laundry room. The very best part of this house is that it provides everything you need in the kitchen, including even zip bags and aluminum foil. We really enjoyed our stay."
