  • Cold Mountain Retreat

"We visited the home with two other couples in October as the leaves were just beginning to brighten and the air was wonderfully cool. My sister and her family had been there a couple of years ago in May and highly recommended the property, however, I must say, it still exceeded our expectations. I have rented homes numerous times on VRBO, but this with the surrounding property was special. One of our friends is an avid fly fisherman and was delighted by the trout pond. There was an added treat in that there was a golf course across the road. I love photography and the property and it's streams provided me with endless opportunities. The kitchen is well stocked and the high end appliances were put to good use by our gourmet cook. We sat on the porch, watched the sunset, drank a few bottles of excellent wine and enjoyed the company of wonderful friends. It doesn't get much better. We were sad to say goodbye."

  • Wonderful, relaxing vacation.

"The cabin was fantastic! It is buried in the woods; possibly the most private place we have ever rented. The last bit of the road can be tricky; steep gravel and a bit wash-boarded. It is obviously maintained, but still...should be noted. For the record, we drove it for a week in a Ford Flex with purely street tires and survived, so most vehicles should be fine. The proximity to multiple waterfalls, Brevard, A Pretty Place (a MUST see!), and Asheville if you need something bigger, makes this a near perfect location for a trip to western NC. Would definitely recommend!"

  • Rustic luxury, relaxing, spacious!

"Our annual family summer gatherings bring 11 very different people together, and it can be a challenge finding just the right property, especially when booking a new area for the first time. This was my year to find "The House," and after painfully scouring the vacation rental websites for hours (can I get a witness???) for something that would satisfy all 11 budgets and tastes, it was a favorable East Fork Ranch (EFR) verdict. As we drove into the Cruso/Canton area from Charlotte, under the mist of the beautiful smoky mountains, my anxiety gradually dissipated with each lush, green mile. It is truly a beautiful place! Yet as we approached the Pigeon River bridge and East Fork Ranch sign, I admit I had one eye closed and squinted warily through the other down the winding drive. I was still slightly nervous both about the property and the area, as we weren't very familiar with this part of NC. Much to my relief, the greeting of wide, green pastures and rustic barns, rushing creeks and ponds full of hungry fish made everyone giddy! So, the only thing to either seal the deal or nail the coffin was The House. Suffice it to say, we couldn't have been happier with our choice. From the outside deck (which we spent most of our time on), to the huge stone fireplace in the living room (and even in late May was well-used), we had plenty of room to spread out or hang out. And the four kids LOVED the room with the bunk beds! It proved the perfect bunker for dark, downtime watching movies together during the rainy spells - speaking of rain, even it seemed prettier in this setting. The kitchen had everything we could have needed, and then some. We have never been to a vacation rental that had a proper egg poacher! The rest of the home was carefully thought out, and we appreciated the attention to detail. Decor was tasteful, and activities abundant - the pool table and dartboard saw a lot of action! Whether walking out the back door to a vigorous hike or out the front to the fire pit and fishing by the pond, there was something for everyone. Asheville is close enough to visit once, and Waynesville is even closer and charming enough to visit several times. We were all pleasantly surprised by the neighboring towns and the abundance of interesting and cool things to do - don't miss white water rafting on the French Broad or breakfast at The Buttered Biscuit. Thank you to Neda for always being available for questions. We will definitely be back!"
