  • Lives Up To Reviews and Your Expectations!

"My wife and I usually book a room at one of several nice Highlands inns for around $150-200 per night. This time our favorites were all booked. So I pulled up VRBO and the first thing I saw was David and Nancy's rental home. What a deal! We could rent an entire house for not much more than we usually pay for a single room. We hopped on it right away and weren't the least bit disappointed. The house is about a mile off Highlands Road on Scaly Mountain, which is how you get the lovely mountain view from the large back porch. The nearest house is David and Nancy's personal home a short walk up the road. You're about equidistant from Highlands, Clayton, and Franklin. David's comprehensive "house notes" tell you about the best attractions, shopping, and dining in each direction. Don't miss the large, quality collection of American Handcrafts at nearby "Peak Experience." Several beautiful hikes begin at your door. The house and grounds were in excellent condition. The interior was spotless. The downstairs is an open floor-plan, except for the master bedroom and bath, with a back porch stretching the length of the house. The kitchen has top tier appliances and plenty of room to work in. There's a gas fireplace across from the comfy sofa in the great room, where you can watch the huge flatscreen TV. Excellent reception. Large dining table with mountain view. Upstairs there's a room with 2 beds (Queens I believe) and a full bath. Wi-Fi works fine. Text messages are no problem, but our cell phone signal was too weak for calls. No worry -- the Blums let you use the house landline. BTW, I called David with a question and he went out of his way to find the answer. From first to last he was easy to work with. The king bed in the master bedroom has a fine mattress -- not too firm, not too soft. Opposite the bed is a picture window with a view of the woods. There are 2 sinks in the master bath, along with a separate shower, bidet, and jetted tub. A washer and dryer are nearby. Believe every good word you read in these reviews about Bella's Junction Cafe less than 10 minutes from the house. Killer Portobello mushroom sandwiches for lunch one day and a filet mignon dinner the next night that was practically as good as the one I'd paid twice as much for the night before at Wolfgang's. Don't let the look put you off. Give Bella's a try and save room for dessert. My guess is you'll make a return visit for seconds! An A+ experience in every way."

  • Great mountain home

"House was beautiful with large deck overlooking a large valley and mountain. Large open floor plan kitchen with adjacent outdoor screened area with gas fireplace. We enjoyed the deck in the evenings and a glass of wine and no mosquitos. Cooked on the outdoor grill 2 nights and it worked great. Really enjoyed the large built on griddle in the kitchen, made making breakfast for 10 easy!"
