  • Great Weekend

"We had a wonderful weekend in this adorable cabin. It was cozy for 4 people, but we didn't need much. It was a great way to escape the stresses of the outside world. The cabin's owner was extremely helpful. I find myself day-dreaming about this cabin and strolling around Lake Hosea. Would love to return soon!"

  • Sonshine Cottage, Laural Park, NC

"We spent a week at Sonshine Cottage over the Christmas holidays. There were various members of our extended family and friends who were also staying in the Hendersonville area. We were able to host several meals because of the well organized kitchen in the cottage (plenty of cooking utensils, dinnerware, silverware, glasses). There were two dining areas -- one in the sunroom and one in the family room which gave us lots of room to spread out. Our little granddaughter had a grand time looking out the sunroom windows for birds and squirrels with the binoculars that were available for our use, along with a birding book and plenty of magazines. The sunroom was beautiful in the breaking daylight and lots of coffee was drank in the early morning. It was used by all of us for a comfortable spot for reading or just looking out the windows. At night the lights of Hendersonville were stunning. The bedrooms were very comfortable and spacious, as were the bathrooms. There was also a well appointed laundry room which was put to good use during the week. The property was accurate regarding the location, which was close to our son, who lives in Hendersonville. The cottage was clean and ready for our arrival and it had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable -- I DID NOT have to run out to the grocery store to purchase household goods. We had a great time going on hikes close by the house and at the Carl Sandburg house in nearby Flat Rock. We were able to be in Hendersonville in less than 10 minutes and ate at numerous restaurants -- our favorites were The Black Rose, Mountain Deli and Underground Bakery. We had to call Nancy (the rental agent) a couple of times with questions and every time she was available and helpful. And, remember it WAS the week of Christmas! We WILL rent this property again. It was perfect for our family."

  • Family-friendly mountain getaway

"Overall we were pleased with our rental. We had multiple families staying together with ages ranging from 10-68. Having multiple bedrooms and bathrooms was essential as was having access to multiple living rooms with their own TVs to keep everyone entertained. The garage game room was also a nice touch with ping pong, air hockey, and pool table. The large kitchen also came in handy for family meals. The house was very clean when we arrived and the checkout process was very convenient as we weren't required to remove/consolidate bed and bath linens. There were a few issues that took away from our total enjoyment of the house: 1. While the house was wired with speakers for music, there was no working radio/tuner or CD player - the components they had wouldn't work. We were told that the homeowner had purchased a small iPod/iPhone external speaker but it couldn't be found. We were able to find an old JVC "boom box" style radio in the house which we made do with. Had we known up-front there would be no music we could have brought our system/soundbar. 2. Some of the door handles to the exterior deck were either very loose or were so tight that it was difficult to lock/unlock and open making it difficult for the younger kids and the elderly. 3. We also had some issues with inconsistent heat as some rooms/floors would get very warm (especially the basement area) with others staying very cold. Luckily it wasn't too cold outside and the fireplace was both functional and inviting - we spent most of our family time by it. 4. The driveway and parking area can get very crowded. Since parking on the main road was prohibited and there is no useable garage, we had to do a lot of moving cars around the entire time whenever people would need to leave. Relaxing the parking restriction or offering some clarification up front as to the actual capacity of the property would be helpful as we could then adjust our transportation choices and take fewer larger vehicles, etc. I must say though that the rental agency was EXTREMELY helpful and receptive to our issues (especially the music/radio situation) and did try to offer alternative suggestions as well as have the owner come out to help rectify the situation. As we were only staying for the weekend, we adopted a "go with the flow attitude" but had we been staying longer we probably would have taken them up on their offer to help. It was comforting to know they were there and so willing to make things right."
