  • Basic cabin in perfectly beautiful river location

"5+ stars for the outdoor amenities, 3 stars for the cabin itself. The proximity to the water is unparalleled, spitting distance to the most gorgeous water view (the river splits into three parts right in front of the cabin and the islands in between are also available for exploring by bridge). There is a lovely fire pit (bring a lighter and kindling with you or you won't be able to do anything with the amazing pile of firewood next to it). Lovely nearby hike and a huge field next to the house- perfect for playing sports or spreading out to fish in the river. Best part bar none: rafting on unguided duckies and kayaks and making a pit stop for lunch at our own cabin on the way down the river (and ate said lunch / snack on the porch right on the river). We did it twice and it was seriously awesome. I cannot say enough about the location to the river. Ah-mazing. However, the cabin less so. As lovely as it is to hear the rushing water and see the amazing views, the cabin is also very close to the highway. (The highway sits next to the river the whole way so if you have one you have the other). Traffic can be heard at all times in and around the cabin as well as noise from the camping sites across the street. The bedroom faces the street and can be loud at night between the traffic and the window a/c kicking on and off all night (ear plugs and a box fan helped us out here). The cabin is part of a community with very nice homes (not remote as we thought it would be) and the hiking area, meadow, islands are all shared with the neighbors. The cabin needs a lot of love. It is tidy and reasonably clean but aged. The wifi was our main issue. We had a maximum of 1 bar the whole trip and it dropped every 10-15 mins for an hour or so. We have Verizon and 95% of the times we tried, there was no satellite signal for that either. We weren't prepared for this so be sure to reserve rafts, download books, look up restaurants, and tell your kids see ya when we get back before you come since you won't be able to do it at the cabin. The bed was comfortable, shower had great water pressure and hot water, numerical keypad lock was great. In comparison this has the prettiest location, but also the noisiest and least updated. Cabin is very basic, just like it states in the description. You are paying for the river proximity here. However if this cabin were updated, wow it would be a gem. Thanks for the nice stay Renee."

  • Blue Boar Retreat Family Vacation

"We rented Blue Boar Retreat for our weeklong family vacation. With siblings and/or children residing in 6 different states, ranging from 15 months to 75 years of age, the 8 bedroom/bath combination was perfect. Each group took one day to designate a group activity, cook breakfast & an evening meal. That way, no one was overburdened, but had a chance to share their speciality. Off-site adventures included Joyce Kilmer Forest, whitewater rafting, Fontana Dam, and Cherokee. The canoes, kayaks, boat dock, board games and fire pit made for additional activities. The kitchen was well stocked: in addition to large pots/pans, we could have the sink and the dishwasher full and still have plenty of dishes/glasses/silverware!! The basic household necessities were provided: 3 refrigerators, 5 cooking surfaces, 2 ovens, 2 microwaves, 1 toaster, 1 large freezer, washers & dryers, sheets, bath and kitchen towels. Additionally, starter necessities were there: bathroom tissue & soap, cooking spices, trash bags, laundry & dish detergent. A great coffee maker (with filters), a mixer, and many cooking/serving utensils were available. The separate TV room made it possible for sports fans to follow their team activities without interruption. The dining area seated our entire group. The layout made it easy to have private time, or participate as a large group. In addition to all that, the decor was pleasing -- a wonderful place to spend time together."

  • Great secluded cabin

"We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin. Kitchen had every pot/pan or appliance we needed for cooking. It felt like home immediately. There is a mountain stream close by that has many spots for fishing. As long as you bring your food, there is really no reason to leave. Gorgeous view!"
