"We've driven past Baker City on I-84 but never stopped before. So glad we stopped this time and stayed at Dewayne's place. A complete 1br, 1 ba cottage with big deck, driveway parking and everything you could possible need for your stay. Lovingly and beautifully restored, there is a great kitchen, super-comfortable bed, washer/dryer in the large bathroom, cable tv and good wi-fi. Owners live next door if you need anything, but give you complete privacy.
You can walk or drive to Safeway, Coffee Corral (excellent, fresh roasted coffee,) and several restaurants. Our favorite place was Barley Brown's brewpub. We drove up to Anthony Lake in the Elkhorn Mountains and took a beautiful hike up to Hoffer Lake. We also did the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, a long loop drive to the Hells Canyon overlook, then on a paved but seasonal road through the Wallowa Mountains to Joseph then east to Enterprise and La Grande, before returning to Baker on I-84. We didn't have time to get to the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center - have to save that one for next time. We will definitely book Dewayne's Place for that trip, too."
