  • Highlands Retreat 90th Birthday

"The Highlands Retreat is a beautiful property that is casually elegant, very well maintained, and very clean. It fit our family perfectly for a weekend celebration of my mothers 90th birthday. We loved that you could see the ocean from the front windows and the golf course and mountains from the rear. It was quiet and very peaceful. The walk to the beach was easy. It was a perfect beach house. I would recommend the Pacific Way restaurant in downtown (such as it is) Gearhart for excellent food and would stay away from McMenamins at the old Gearhart hotel due to it's very poor food. The 9 hole golf course is fun, especially for beginner golfers and it is nice that you can walk into the house at one of the greens in case you need more refreshments. I would recommend it to friends and would stay there again if we visit Gearhart."

  • Wonderful beach house in a great location

"Our group of seven retirees from Washington state thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rickles' Gearhart Beach House. The house is very well designed, furnished and equipped, and so well maintained it was almost like new. The deck and back yard full of flowers, shrubs and trees is sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon--our favorite place for morning coffee and late afternoon drinks. We did not have children with us, but were charmed by the playhouse in the back yard. There is also a very clean sandbox. It would be a great location for a multigenerational getaway. It was fairly hot two of the days we were there, but even so we did not need to turn on the air conditioning because the house and the back yard stayed cool. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the living room and a large dining table to accommodate a group. The kitchen has everything you can possibly need, high quality pots and pans, many condiments, oil and vinegar, other basic ingredients. We especially enjoyed the interesting artwork, décor, and historic photos. Clearly a home loved by its owners--we are happy that they decided to share it. The location is excellent, one house away from the dune grass and beach, less than a block south of the main Gearhart beach access. Cars can drive on the beach north of the access, but not to the south, where this house is located. It's also a couple blocks from the golf course and McMenamins Sand Trap Pub. Steve was very easy to work with. We were all very pleased with this rental and would highly recommend it to others."

  • Delightful and charming home. 5 minute walk through dunes to expansive beach.

"Friendly owner great to work with. Their loved beach house reflected in all details and amenities. Hall bath nice serving 3 bedrooms. Master bath with quaint tub/shower curtain could be improved with a normal shower. Private backyard and deck special perk. Quiet neighborhood with picturesque vintage homes . Deep, beautiful beach with few people a surprise. Enjoyed every moment of beauty, peace and quiet."

  • Cozy Retreat in Gearhart

"This accommodation is located in a charming renovated barn on beautiful grounds. Since we didn't need to have full kitchen facilities it worked perfectly for us. The rooms are beautifully appointed and Lori was very accommodating with our check-in and out needs. Highly recommend it!"
