"If you are looking for a wonderful few days in the middle of nature then this place is perfect. We saw tons of animals such as, river otters, deer, frogs, geese, heron, etc. The surrounding area is so quiet. At night there is very little light pollution and you can see the milky way if it's a cloudless sky. The boathouse makes this place truly amazing. We would spend most of our day at the boathouse floating, kayaking, swimming, etc. The lake is warm and so is great for swimming. There is very little motor boat traffic so you could kayak and float without any issues.
The house is also close enough that you can spend time exploring the Oregon coast. We went up to Stilcoos day area which was great and allows dogs. Note that some areas of the OR Dunes National Rec area are off limits to dogs in the summer because of Snowy Plover nesting sites. We also hit Carl G. Washburne State Park (no day use fee) and Haceta lighthouse beach which both allow dogs. The drive up Hwy 101 is gorgeous. Also, as a side trip note that Hwy 38 has an elk viewing area.
That said, a few notes regarding comments made by some of the other reviews. Yes, this place is in the woods. Which is awesome but it sounds troublesome for some people. So note that the Safeway in Reedsport on Hwy 101 is about a 30 minute drive from the house. It would be recommended that you show up at the house with at least a few days of supplies. As to the well water, we barely noticed the smell (i.e. it wasn't an issue). As recommended though we brought water for drinking cold but we used the well water to make coffee, tea, shower, wash dishes, and drinking water for the dog. There is both a working dryer and clothes washer. As noted, the Owner had cleaned up the walk to the boathouse and when we arrived it had been mown down and covered with hay. The house was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with all of the necessary utensils and cookware. The boathouse had a lot of kayaks and a floating lounger which was awesome for us older people who just wanted to float and read on the lake. We also came with our own portable hammock (recommended) that we set up at the boathouse. Hammocks and a lake make for some great napping.
We had a great time. The setting was beautiful and relaxing. We would love to visit again."
